Carlos Morais selected the top Angolan playing abroad in last week's games - Nov 19, 2018

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Angolans who are currently playing abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International, currently plays in Italy). He could not help Mens Sana 1871 (5-3) in their last game. Despite Morais' very good performance the fifth-placed Mens Sana 1871 (5-3) lost 73-85 on the road to the lower-ranked (#10) Givova Scafati in the West group. He was the top scorer with 28 points. Morais also added 6 rebounds in 37 minutes on the court. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Morais has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.4ppg, 6.1rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 46.4%, 3FGP: 37.8% and FT: 86.4% in seven games he played so far. Morais has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese. He is currently a member of the Angolan senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Yanick Moreira (211-91, college: SMU, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). Moreira contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Fribourg (1-5) crushing them 92-61 in the Basketball Champions League last Wednesday. He scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. PAOK Thessaloniki (3-3) is placed fourth in group B. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Moreira's first season with the team. Moreira has relatively good stats this year: 10.2ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 59.0%(23-39) and FT: 65.2%. He is in the roster of the Angolan senior national team.

   #3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Bruno Fernando (208-98, currently plays college basketball in the States). Fernando led Maryland to an easy victory against the Mount Saint Mary's University, MD 92-77 in the NCAA on Sunday night. He recorded 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks in 25 minutes. The University of Maryland has conference record this season. This year Fernando has relatively solid stats: 14.5ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.8bpg, 2FGP: 82.8%(24-29) and FT: 52.6% in four games. He played for the Angolan national team two years ago.

   #4. Center Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain) led Univ.Burgos to a victory against the fourth-ranked Valle de Egues (5-1) 97-87 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. De Assis recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 5 assists and 2 blocks. CB Universidad de Burgos (6-0) is placed first in Group A-A. So far his team won all six games in the Regular Season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year De Assis has very high stats. He averages: 18.2ppg, 9.2rpg, 2.5apg and 1.2spg. De Assis is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish. He is also Angolan national team player.

   #5. Former international forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help FC Porto (2-4) in their last game. Despite Monteiro's good performance FC Porto lost 82-96 at home to the second-ranked Oliveirense. He scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a mere 17 minutes. It was FC Porto's fourth consecutive loss in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Monteiro's overall stats are: 5.4ppg, 5.6rpg and 1.2apg in five games. He has both Angolan and Portuguese nationalities. Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he is currently in the Angolan national team roster.

   #6. Center Valdelicio Joaquim (208-90, also represented by Duran International, college: Hawaii, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in a 1-point Quimper UJAP's victory against the 16th-ranked Lille Metropole (2-4) 85-84 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. He scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 25 minutes. Quimper UJAP (2-4) is placed 12th in the ProB. Joaquim has reliable stats this year: 13.2ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.2bpg in six games. He is international player as he played for the Angolan senior team one years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams:

   #1. Experienced Sergio Correia (198-F-85, currently plays in Portugal) could not help Imortal (2-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Correia's good performance Imortal was crushed 88-58 on the road by the higher-ranked CAB Madeira (#8). He was the top scorer with 14 points. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Correia has reliable stats this season: 10.9ppg and 3.9rpg.

   #2. Paulo Sopita (203-PF-93, currently plays in Japan) was not able to help Iwate Big Bulls in their game against Tokyo Excellence (13-1) in the Japanese B League D4. Sopita scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Iwate Big Bulls were crushed 78-57 in Tokyo by the second-ranked Excellence. It was Iwate Big Bulls' fourth consecutive loss in a row. Sopita's total stats this season are: 1.2ppg and 3.2rpg.

   #3. Fabio Galiano (202-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) led Itzehoe to a victory against the 11th-ranked Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (3-6) 72-68 in the German ProB (third division) on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 16 rebounds. Galiano also added 3 assists in 31 minutes. Itzehoe Eagles (4-5) is placed ninth in North group. This year Galiano's total stats are: 5.6ppg and 3.9rpg in nine games he played so far.

   #4. Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to Academia's victory against the eighth-ranked Estoril Basket (0-5) 74-65 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) in Sunday night's game. He scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Academia do Lumiar Lisboa (4-1) is placed second in South group. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Suca is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Academia's roster. Suca has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 18.0ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.3bpg.

   #5. Fernando Mussongo (198-F-96, currently plays in Switzerland) was not able to secure a victory for Lugano Tigers (2-4) in their game against Swiss Central (2-5) in the Swiss SBL. Mussongo cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only one point in 9 minutes on the court. Lugano Tigers lost 79-92 in Luzern to the one of league's weakest teams (#10) Swiss Central. This year Mussongo's total stats are: 1.4ppg and 3.2rpg in five games. He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Swiss.

   #6. Silvio Mateus (185-G-94, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Koeln Rh.Stars in their game against Loewen in the German ProB (third division). Mateus scored 8 points. His team was defeated 86-76. Mateus' total stats this season are: 10.0ppg, 2.1rpg and 2.1apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and French.
