Morais leads team in 7th Super Cup trophy win - Oct 16, 2019

Carlos Morais (200-G-85, agency: Duran International) early gave motivational signals as he was already leading the statistics by the halftime, with 13 points, a game attended by about 5,000 spectators and marked by a a 'show' of three-points scoring from both sides, with a better outcome for Petro Atletico de Luanda. In a challenge that opens the 2019/20 season, very balanced and promising in relation to what may be the season, Carlos Morais was assisted by the power forward Valdelicio Joaquim (208-C-90, college: Hawaii, agency: Duran International) (18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assist 1 steal in 26min : 44sec) and Jose Antonio (197-SF-90) (13 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assists at 17min : 54Sec) to dethrone the holders of the trophy (1 de Agosto), who had the forty-year old "irreverent veteran" Eduardo Mingas (200-F/C-79) (19 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist) and the young Malick Cisse (210-C-92) (16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals) as the most productive players. Petro de Luanda finished the first quarter losing 15-21, but overcame their opponents in the next 12 minutes with a partial of 31-15, going into the break by 10 points (46-36), due to an aggressive defence that "blocked" 1 de Agosto team for five minutes without scoring, plus a succession of tree-point launches. The second period was the most profitable for Petro de Luanda, who scored six long-distance throws through Jose Antonio (2), Valdelicio (2), Gerson Goncalves (1) and Carlos Morais (1). Mingas (19 points), Cisse (16) and Pedro Bastos (191-G-93) (14) stood out in the recovery, narrowing the gap to a halt after the third quarter. 1 de Agosto made a partial 24-15, putting the score at 60-61, and found enough courage to balance. The game went into a three-point 'battle' in which names such as Benvindo Quimbamba, on the one hand, and Edson Ndoniema (191-G-91) and Pedro Bastos, on the other, were noted, but in the end Carlos Morais and team mates managed better, having won the first trophy of the season. Petro have challenged themselves to win all competitions in which they will be involved (National Championship, Angola Cup and African Clubs League).
