Hichem Dekakene claims Algerian D1 weekly honour

Hichem Dekakene

International Guard Hichem Dekakene (190-G-1997) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's leader Nadi Basket Staoueli and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 22.
The 28-year old guard had a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat US Setif (#12, 7-15) 74-62. It allowed Nadi Basket to consolidate first place in the Algerian D1. Nadi Basket have a solid 18-4 record. In the team's last game Dekakene had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Nadi Basket and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Hichem Dekakene averages this season 14.9ppg and 5.2rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young center Sid Benzaime (203-C-2002) of Rouiba Club Basket. Benzaime impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds. Of course he led Rouiba to another comfortable win 79-61 over the lower-ranked Moustakbal (#14, 3-19) being unquestionably team leader. This victory allowed Rouiba to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 13-9 record is not bad and everything may still change. Benzaime is a newcomer at Rouiba and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was DR Congolese Mutomb Mbav (206-C-1987) of Union Sportif de Setif (#12). Mbav scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds (!!!). Despite Mbav's great performance the US Setif lost 62-74 to the higher-ranked Nadi Basket (#1, 18-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of US Setif not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 15 games, recording just seven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Mbav could try to bring US Setif's a little bit higher in the standings. Mbav has individually a great season in Algeria. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.3rpg (#1 in league).
