We bring you last week's top performances from Algerians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an experienced former international point guard
Samir Mekdad (191-1986, currently plays in France). He could not help
C'Chartres (14-8) in their last game. Despite Mekdad's very good performance the third-placed C'Chartres (14-8) lost
89-101 on the road to the leading Etoile Angers in the Group A.
He was the top scorer with 23 points. Mekdad also added 6 rebounds in 32 minutes on the court.
It was C'Chartres' first loss after three consecutive victories.
There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical.
This year Mekdad averages: 7.8ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.4apg, 2FGP: 36.1%, 3FGP: 35.2% and FT: 63.6% in 19 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Algerian and French.
Mekdad played for the Algerian senior national team year ago.
#2. Second place goes to former U16 international guard
Nadir Hifi (190-2002, currently plays in France). He managed to help ESSM Le Portel Cote d'Opale to win against the ninth-ranked JSF Nanterre (13-13)
87-71 in the French Betclic ELITE ProA last Tuesday.
Hifi recorded only 3 points.
ESSM Le Portel Cote d'Opale (5-3) is placed second in the Betclic ELITE ProA.
Hifi's overall stats this season are: 4.8ppg, 1.1rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 54.5%, 3FGP: 28.2% and FT: 72.7%.
He is another player who holds two passports: Algerian and French.
Hifi played for the Algerian U16 national team in 17.
#3. The Algerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward
Kamel Ammour (203-1991, currently plays in France). He contributed to a 1-point
Saint Chamond's victory against the closely-ranked Chalon/Saor (17-9)
87-86 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night.
Ammour scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 21 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Saint Chamond Basket Valle du Gier (5-2) is placed first in the ProB.
It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
This year Ammour's overall stats are: 6.9ppg, 2.9rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 57.8%(37-64), 3FGP: 35.8% and FT: 72.2% in 25 games.
He played for the Algerian national team year ago.
#4. Guard
Nadyr Labouize (187-1997, currently plays in France) was not able to help
Andrezieux (7-7) in their last game on Friday. Despite Labouize's good performance Andrezieux (#5) was defeated
86-79 at home by the lower-ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (#6) in the Group B.
He scored 13 points and added 5 passes.
There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game is very crucial.
Labouize's total stats this season are: 7.6ppg, 3.1rpg and 3.4apg.
He used to play for the Algerian national team
back in 19.
#5. Former U16 international shooting guard
Ilian Nessaibia (183-2003, currently plays in Switzerland) contributed to
Pully's victory against the second-ranked Morges-Saint-Prex (16-4)
77-71 in the Swiss NLB (second division) last Saturday.
Nessaibia recorded only 4 points in 13 minutes.
Pully Basket Foxes (4-18) are placed sixth in the NLB.
This year Nessaibia's total stats are: 4.2ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.2apg in 18 games.
He has both Algerian and French nationalities.
Nessaibia used to play for the Algerian U16 national team
years ago.
