We bring you last week's top performances from Algerians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is former U16 international guard
Nadir Hifi (190-2002, currently plays in France). He could not help
Le Portel (3-2) in their last game. Despite Hifi's good performance Le Portel lost
70-75 on the road to the lower-ranked (#7) Pau-Lacq-Orthez.
He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Hifi also added 4 assists in 28 minutes on the court.
This year Hifi averages: 5.5ppg, 1.3rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 58.6%(17-29), 3FGP: 25.8% and FT: 72.7% in 12 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Algerian and French.
Hifi played for the Algerian U16 national team year ago.
#2. Second place goes to former international forward
Kamel Ammour (203-1991, currently plays in France). He was not able to help
Saint Chamond (17-6) in their last game on Friday. Despite Ammour's good performance the league leader Saint Chamond was badly defeated
88-71 in Aix-les-Bains by the much lower-ranked Aix-Maurienne (#13).
He scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
Ammour's overall stats this season are: 7.0ppg, 2.8rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 60.7%(34-56), 3FGP: 34.4% and FT: 73.3%.
He played for the Algerian national team in 22.
#3. The Algerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former U16 international shooting guard
Ilian Nessaibia (183-2003, currently plays in Switzerland). Nessaibia managed to help Pully Basket Foxes in a victory against the closely-ranked Sion (5-13) crushing them
99-56 in the Swiss NLB (second division) on Saturday night.
He scored only 4 points in 11 minutes.
Pully Basket Foxes (3-15) are placed sixth in the NLB.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
This year Nessaibia's overall stats are: 4.4ppg, 1.5rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 54.1%, 3FGP: 28.6% and FT: 53.3% in 15 games.
He is another player who holds two passports: Algerian and French.
Nessaibia played for the Algerian U16 national team year ago.
#4. Guard
Nadyr Labouize (187-1997, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for
Andrezieux (5-4) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance the sixth-placed Andrezieux (5-4) was defeated
76-72 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (#5) in the Group B.
Labouize recorded 10 points and added 6 assists.
Labouize's total stats this season are: 6.1ppg, 2.7rpg and 3.2apg.
He used to play for the Algerian national team
back in 19.
#5. An experienced former international point guard
Samir Mekdad (191-1986, currently plays in France) couldn't help
C'Chartres (13-7) in their game against Poitiers (0-5) in the French NM1 (third division). Mekdad did not have that impressive stats last Friday.
He recorded only 3 points in 19 minutes.
C'Chartres (#2) lost
62-77 on the opponent's court to the lower-ranked (#6) Poitiers in the Group A.
This year Mekdad's total stats are: 7.5ppg, 3.2rpg and 2.5apg in 15 games.
He has both Algerian and French nationalities.
Mekdad used to play for the Algerian national team
years ago.
