Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Algerians who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an experienced former international center
Touhami Ghezzoul (209-87, college:
N.Dakota St., currently plays in Saudi Arabia). He could not help
Al Salam (8-11) in their last game. Despite Ghezzoul's very good performance Al Salam was crushed
104-76 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) Al Ittihad.
He had a double-double by scoring 38 points and getting 16 rebounds in 37 minutes on the court.
Ghezzoul's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
It's Ghezzoul's first season with the team.
He has individually a very good year with high stats. Ghezzoul averages: 19.1ppg, 15.9rpg, 2.2bpg, 2FGP: 52.9%, 3FGP: 22.2% and FT: 62.9% in 11 games he played so far.
He played for the Algerian senior national team three years ago.
#2. Second place goes to former international forward
Mohamed Harat (198-90, currently plays in Saudi Arabia). Harat led
Al Fateh to a victory over the closely-ranked Al Salam (8-11)
80-64 in the Saudi Arabian SBL last Friday.
He was MVP of the game. Harat recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and getting 17 rebounds. He also added 4 assists.
Al Fateh Al Hasa (11-8) is placed fifth in the SBL.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
This season Harat has very high stats. He averages: 29.4ppg, 15.0rpg, 3.3apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 64.8%(210-324), 3FGP: 28.2% and FT: 69.1%.
Former Groupe Sportif Petroliers Alger starter played for the Algerian national team in 2020.
#3. The Algerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former U16 international guard
Nadir Hifi (190-2, currently plays in France). Hifi was not able to help
Le Portel in their game against JDA Dijon (9-8) in the French Betclic ELITE ProA.
He scored 8 points in only 12 minutes.
Le Portel lost
72-86 in Dijon to the much lower-ranked (#10) JDA Dijon.
This year Hifi averages only 2.8ppg and FT: 66.7% in six games.
He has a dual citizenship: Algerian and French.
Hifi played for the Algerian U16 national team five years ago.
#4. Point guard
Samir Mekdad (191-86, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked Mulhouse (13-7)
102-86 in the French NM1 (third division) in Friday night's game.
He scored 14 points, made 7 passes and 3 steals.
Chartres Basket Masculins (15-6) is placed second in Group B.
It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row.
Mekdad's overall stats this season are: 6.8ppg, 3.2rpg and 3.3apg.
He is another player who holds two passports: Algerian and French.
Mekdad used to play for the Algerian national team
back in 2020.
#5. Former international guard
Nadyr Labouize (187-97, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked Kaysersberg (7-14) crushing them
91-63 in the French NM1 (third division) last Friday.
He scored 6 points and added 6 assists in 26 minutes.
Andrezieux Boutheon Loire Sud Basket (13-7) is placed sixth in Group B.
This year Labouize's overall stats are: 6.5ppg, 2.9rpg and 3.1apg in 17 games.
He used to play for the Algerian national team
three years ago.
#6. Point guard
Faycal Sahraoui (190-79, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for
Toulouse (11-3) in their game against Poitiers (0-3) in the French NM1 (third division). He cannot count it as his best performance.
Sahraoui scored only 3 points in 24 minutes.
The first-placed Toulouse (11-3) was badly defeated
74-58 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked (#6) Poitiers in the Group A.
This year Sahraoui's total stats are: 9.1ppg, 2.4rpg and 5.2apg in 19 games.
He is a former international player as he played for the Algerian senior team seven years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Algerian passport: #1. Amine Bensaleh (201-F, currently plays in NAIA) managed to help Wayland Baptist University to win against the Langston University, OK (0-12) crushing them
92-51 in the NAIA on Saturday night.
Bensaleh recorded only 3 points.
The Wayland Baptist University has 5-5 record this season.
His team will play only one more game in the NAIA Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Bensaleh's total stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 2.1rpg.
