We bring you last week's top performances from Algerians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is former international forward
Mohamed Harat (198-90, currently plays in Saudi Arabia). He could not help
Al Fateh (9-8) in their last game. Despite Harat's very good performance Al Fateh was crushed
100-77 at home by the leading Al Hilal.
He had a double-double by scoring 34 points and getting 14 rebounds in 40 minutes on the court.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It's Harat's first season with the team.
Harat has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 29.6ppg, 14.8rpg, 3.4apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 65.5%(192-293), 3FGP: 24.2% and FT: 67.6% in 17 games he played so far.
Former Groupe Sportif Petroliers Alger starter played for the Algerian senior national team two years ago.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced former U16 international guard
Nadir Hifi (190-2, currently plays in France). Hifi was not able to help
Le Portel in their game against JDA Dijon (9-7) in the French Betclic ELITE ProA.
He scored 8 points.
Le Portel was defeated
86-72 on the road by the much lower-ranked JDA Dijon (#9).
It was Le Portel's ninth consecutive loss in a row.
This season Hifi averages only 1.6ppg.
He has a dual citizenship: Algerian and French.
Hifi played for the Algerian U16 national team in 2017.
#3. The Algerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center
Touhami Ghezzoul (209-87, college:
N.Dakota St., currently plays in Saudi Arabia). He was the major contributor in a 2-point
Al Salam's victory against the closely-ranked Al Nahda (2-15)
72-70 in the Saudi Arabian SBL on Monday night.
Ghezzoul had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 16 rebounds. He also added 6 blocks in 40 minutes.
Al Salam (8-9) is placed eighth in the SBL.
It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
Ghezzoul has very impressive stats this year: 17.4ppg, 16.2rpg, 2.4bpg, 2FGP: 51.5%, 3FGP: 16.7% and FT: 64.0% in nine games.
He played for the Algerian national team three years ago.
#4. Point guard
Samir Mekdad (191-86, currently plays in France) led
C'Chartres to a victory against the 14th-ranked GET Vosges (3-14)
78-64 in the French NM1 (third division) in Friday night's game.
Mekdad recorded 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.
Chartres Basket Masculins (13-6) is placed third in Group B.
It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
Mekdad's overall stats this season are: 5.3ppg, 3.3rpg and 3.1apg.
He is another player who holds two passports: Algerian and French.
Mekdad used to play for the Algerian national team
back in 2020.
#5. Former international guard
Nadyr Labouize (187-97, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked CFBB (5-14) crushing them
77-50 in the French NM1 (third division) last Friday.
He recorded 10 points in 26 minutes.
Andrezieux Boutheon Loire Sud Basket (12-6) is placed fourth in Group B.
It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
This year Labouize's overall stats are: 6.6ppg, 3.1rpg and 3.0apg in 15 games.
He used to play for the Algerian national team
three years ago.
#6. Point guard
Faycal Sahraoui (190-79, currently plays in France) contributed to
Toulouse's victory against the third-ranked Rueil (13-6)
61-55 in the French NM1 (third division) in Friday night's game.
He recorded 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams. Toulouse Basket Club (10-3) is placed first in Group A.
It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row.
This year Sahraoui's total stats are: 9.4ppg, 2.4rpg and 5.3apg in 18 games.
He is a former international player as he played for the Algerian senior team seven years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Algerian passport: #1. Amine Bensaleh (201-F, currently plays in NAIA) managed to help Wayland Baptist University to win against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University (4-6) crushing them
90-61 in the NAIA on Tuesday night.
Bensaleh scored only 4 points.
The Wayland Baptist University has 3-5 record this season.
His team will play only one more game in the NAIA Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Bensaleh's total stats this season are: 4.6ppg and 2.1rpg.
