Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Algerians who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is former international forward
Mohamed Harat (198-90, currently plays in Saudi Arabia). He led
Al Fateh to a victory over the closely-ranked Al Ansar (7-8)
81-69 in the Saudi Arabian SBL in Friday night's game.
Harat was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 33 points and getting 15 rebounds in 37 minutes on the court.
Al Fateh Al Hasa (8-7) is placed sixth in the SBL.
Harat has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 29.7ppg, 15.1rpg, 3.6apg, 1.9spg, 2FGP: 64.7%(167-258), 3FGP: 26.9% and FT: 68.4% in 15 games he played so far.
Former Groupe Sportif Petroliers Alger starter played for the Algerian senior national team two years ago.
#2. Second place goes to an experienced former international center
Touhami Ghezzoul (209-87, college:
N.Dakota St., currently plays in Saudi Arabia). Ghezzoul was the major contributor in an
Al Salam's victory against the closely-ranked Al Ahly (6-9)
77-72 in the Saudi Arabian SBL last Monday.
He recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Ghezzoul also added 2 blocks.
Al Salam (6-9) is placed eighth in the SBL.
It's Ghezzoul's first season with the team.
This year he has very high stats. Ghezzoul averages: 18.3ppg, 16.0rpg, 2.0bpg, 2FGP: 54.3%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 64.7%.
He played for the Algerian national team in 2019.
#3. The Algerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international point guard
Samir Mekdad (191-86, currently plays in France). Mekdad managed to help Chartres Basket Masculins in a victory against the tenth-ranked SOPCC (6-11)
88-72 in the French NM1 (third division) on Tuesday night.
He scored only 3 points and added 3 assists in 10 minutes.
Chartres Basket Masculins (12-6) is placed fourth in Group B.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
This year Mekdad's overall stats are: 4.2ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.8apg, 2FGP: 18.2%, 3FGP: 22.2% in six games.
He has a dual citizenship: Algerian and French.
Mekdad played for the Algerian national team two years ago.
#4. Guard
Nadyr Labouize (187-97, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked GET Vosges (3-13) crushing them
87-64 in the French NM1 (third division) in Tuesday night's game.
He scored only 4 points.
Andrezieux Boutheon Loire Sud Basket (11-6) is placed fifth in Group B.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
Labouize's total stats this season are: 6.4ppg, 3.1rpg and 3.1apg.
He used to play for the Algerian national team
back in 2019.
#5. Former international point guard
Faycal Sahraoui (190-79, currently plays in France) could not help
Toulouse (9-3) in their last game. Despite his good performance the first-placed Toulouse (9-3) lost
71-81 at home to the lower-ranked (#3) Vendee Challans in the Group A.
Sahraoui scored 11 points and added 6 passes in 28 minutes.
This year Sahraoui's total stats are: 9.2ppg, 2.2rpg and 5.4apg in 17 games.
He is another player who holds two passports: Algerian and French.
Sahraoui used to play for the Algerian national team
seven years ago.
The list of other players, who all have Algerian passport but never been selected to any of Algerian national teams: #1. Jamal Tahraoui (199-F-95, college:
USAO, currently plays in Spain). Tahraoui could not help
Melilla (2-1) to beat Ourense (9-3). He did not have that impressive stats last Saturday.
Tahraoui scored only 3 points in 11 minutes.
The second-placed Melilla (2-1) was edged
81-79 at home by the second-ranked Ourense in the West group.
This year Tahraoui's total stats are: 4.5ppg and 1.5rpg in 13 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: British and Algerian.
#2. Amine Bensaleh (201-F, currently plays in NAIA) was not able to help the
Wayland Baptist University in their game against the SW Assemblies of God University (7-1) in the NAIA. Bensaleh did not beat the league record on Saturday evening.
He scored only one point.
The Wayland Baptist University was edged
67-65 on the road by the SW Assemblies of God University.
There are only three games left until the end of the NAIA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Bensaleh's total stats this season are: 6.8ppg and 3.5rpg.
