Samir Mekdad
Samir Mekdad
#1. This week's number one is an international point guard Samir Mekdad (191-86, currently plays in France). He could not help STB Le Havre (6-5) in their last game. Despite Mekdad's good performance the fifth-placed STB Le Havre (6-5) lost 63-78 on the road to the lower-ranked (#11) Toulouse in the Group B. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Mekdad also added 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 30 minutes on the court. It was STB Le Havre's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Mekdad has relatively good stats this year: 11.6ppg, 3.1rpg, 3.2apg, 2FGP: 43.8%, 3FGP: 35.3% and FT: 72.3% in 14 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Algerian and French. Mekdad played for the Algerian senior national team one years ago.

Mehdi Cheriet
Mehdi Cheriet
#2. Second place goes to an international power forward Mehdi Cheriet (204-87, college: San Diego St., currently plays in France). He was not able to help SO Maritime Boulogne (8-8) in their last game on Friday. Despite Cheriet's good performance SO Maritime Boulogne (#7) was edged 74-71 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Saint-Quentin in the Group A. He recorded 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. This season Cheriet averages: 8.3ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 55.1%(38-69), 3FGP: 35.1% and FT: 64.3%. He is another player who holds two passports: Algerian and French. Despite Cheriet played previously for the French U20 national team, he played also for the Algerian national team in 2017.

Faycal Sahraoui
Faycal Sahraoui
#3. The Algerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international guard Faycal Sahraoui (186-79, currently plays in France). Sahraoui was not able to secure a victory for La Rochelle (8-8) in their last game. Despite his very good performance La Rochelle (#8) was edged 90-87 in La Charite by the second-ranked La Charite in the Group B. Sahraoui was the top scorer with 22 points. He also added 5 rebounds and dished 9 assists in 32 minutes. It's Sahraoui's eighth season with the team. This year Sahraoui has relatively solid stats: 13.1ppg, 3.6rpg, 6.2apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 54.3% and FT: 73.7% in 16 games. Similarly like Cheriet and Mekdad above he has both Algerian and French nationalities. Sahraoui played for the Algerian national team three years ago.

Forward Mohamed Harath (198-90, currently plays in Qatar) led Al Shamal to a victory over the league outsider Qatar Sports Club (0-2) 81-75 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 in Thursday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Harath recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 19 rebounds. He also added 5 assists. It was his first game for Al Shamal this season. His team is placed fifth in the D1. Harath used to play for the Algerian national team last year.

Former international shooting guard Karim Atamna (196-80, currently plays in France) contributed to Aix-Maurienne's victory against the closely-ranked SPO Rouen (6-5) 77-70 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. He scored 6 points. Aix-Maurienne Savoie Basket (6-5) is placed seventh in the ProB. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
