MEHDI CHERIET
 |
Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Algerians who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international power forward
Mehdi Cheriet (204-87, college:
San Diego St., currently plays in France). He could not help
SO Maritime Boulogne (3-6) in their last game. Despite Cheriet's very good performance the ninth-placed SO Maritime Boulogne (3-6) was edged
83-82 on the road by the lower-ranked (#14) Kaysersberg in the Group A.
He was the top scorer with 25 points. Cheriet also added 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 30 minutes on the court.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
This year Cheriet averages: 5.9ppg, 2.9rpg, 2FGP: 51.9%, 3FGP: 26.7% in seven games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Algerian and French.
Despite Cheriet played previously for the French U20 national team, he played also for the Algerian national team in 2017.
#2. Second place goes to an international point guard
Samir Mekdad (191-86, currently plays in France). Mekdad led
STB Le Havre to a victory against the 14th-ranked CFBB (0-9)
77-72 in the French NM1 (third division) last Tuesday.
He scored 14 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists.
STB Le Havre (6-3) is placed third in Group B.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Mekdad has relatively good stats this year: 11.8ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.6apg, 2FGP: 42.9%, 3FGP: 35.6% and FT: 68.8%.
He is another player who holds two passports: Algerian and French.
Mekdad played for the Algerian national team in 2017.
#3. The Algerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international guard
Faycal Sahraoui (186-79, currently plays in France). He was not able to help
La Rochelle (4-5) in their last game. Despite Sahraoui's very good performance La Rochelle (#10) lost
79-94 in Challans to the leading Vendee in the Group B.
He was the top scorer with 21 points. Sahraoui also added 7 rebounds and dished 9 assists in 30 minutes.
But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen.
It's Sahraoui's eighth year with the team.
This season his overall stats are: 9.9ppg, 3.3rpg, 6.6apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 55.8%(29-52), 3FGP: 21.7% in nine games.
Similarly like Mekdad and Cheriet above Sahraoui has both Algerian and French nationalities.
He played for the Algerian national team three years ago.
#4. Shooting guard
Karim Atamna (196-80, currently plays in France) contributed to
Aix-Maurienne's victory against the closely-ranked ALM Evreux (2-2)
92-87 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game.
Atamna recorded 17 points and added 4 passes.
Aix-Maurienne Savoie Basket (2-2) is placed ninth in the ProB.
But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go.
Atamna is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Aix-Maurienne's roster.
This season he has relatively solid stats: 12.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 4.3apg.
Similarly like three previous players above, Atamna also holds two passports: Algerian and French.
He used to play for the Algerian national team
back in 2007.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Algerian passport: #1. Chej Ainatu (191-G/F-91, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Megacalzado Ardoi in a victory against the sixth-ranked Gallofa (3-1)
95-85 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Sunday.
Ainatu scored only 4 points in 13 minutes.
Megacalzado Ardoi (5-0) is placed first in Group A-A.
So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season.
It's Ainatu's first season with the team.
This year his total stats are: 8.7ppg, 1.7apg and 1.7spg in three games he played so far.
