Madagascar - Uganda 54-59
Uganda toppled Madagascar to open win count in Group A. Uganda recorded a 29-23 halftime lead. Madagascar pulled within 4 points at the final break. But Uganda held the hosts to only 12 points in the fourth term and raced to the win. Diana Letaru (G) delivered 18 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Marion Rasolofoson (2005) responded with 19 points for Madagascar.

Group B
Angola - Tanzania 77-39
Angola cruised past Tanzania to gain the initial win in Madagascar. Tanzania led by one after ten minutes. But Angola ignited a massive 69-30 rally in the next three quarters to seal the victory. Angelina Joao (2005) posted 17 points, while Isabel Joao (177-PF-2004) added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Rehema Mhina (2005) had 9 points in the loss.
