Mali celebrate title in Cairo- September 4, 2016
FINALEgypt - Mali 61-84Mali defended their U18 AfroBasket title. They upset hosting Egypt in the championship game in Cairo tonight. Salimatou Kourouma (175-G/F-99) posted 27 points and 15 rebounds to pace the champions. Mali recorded a 35:23 halftime lead. They extended the gap at 14-point mark heading into the fourth term. Mali exploded with 26 points in the fourth frame and raced to the title. Adama Coulibaly (175-G/F-98) accounted for 22 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Meral Abdelgawad (181-F-98) responded with 19 points for Egypt. 3-4 PlaceMozambique - Angola 56-43Mozambique stepped onto the pedestal at the championship. They beat Angola to conquer the Bronze medals. Silvia Veloso (172-G-98) nailed 20 points to lead the winners. Mozambique recorded a 27:16 halftime lead. Angola cut the deficit at 8-point mark at the final break. But Mozambique went on a 19:16 run in the fourth term to seal the victory. Iolanda Francisco (183-F/C-98) had 14 points and 11 caroms for the winners. Regina Pequeno (170-F-99) responded with 11 points for Angola. 5-6 PlaceMadagascar - Tunisia 59-45Madagascar beat Tunisia to earn the fifth position in Cairo. Christiane Jaofera (170-PG-99) tossed in 13 points to lead the winners. Madagascar piled up a 28:15 halftime lead. Madagascar kept their opponents at bay throughout the second half to seal the victory. Elinah Ranarisaona (177-F/G-00) provided 8 points in the win. Fatma Aouinet (182-F/C-98) responded with 10 points for Tunisia. 7-8 PlaceUganda - Algeria 43-59Algeria wrapped up their championship campaign on a high note. They beat Uganda to clinch the 7th position. Five players scored in double digits to pace the winners. Rym Arabdiou (166-PG-99) stepped up with 14 points for Algeria. They recorded a 30:15 halftime lead. Algeria maintained the advantage throughout the second half and marched to the win. Souhila Chaouche (170-PG-98) and Myriam Zaidi (170-PG-99) chipped in 12 points each for the winners. Brenda Ayere (98) responded with 20 points for Uganda. |
