Group AMadagascar - Angola 32-53Angola cruised past Madagascar in the opener. Neuma Avelino (172-G-98) scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the winners. Angola posted a 17:11 lead ten minutes into the game. Madagascar cut the deficit at 3-point mark at the big break. But Angola went on a 21:7 run in the third term to clear off for good. Avelina Peso (184-F/C-98) produced 10 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Muriel Hajanirina responded with 8 points for Madagascar. Egypt - Algeria 92-43 Egypt opened win count at the championship. They hosts cruised past Algeria in the opener. Radwa Sherif (187-C-98) posted 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the winners. Egypt grabbed a 30:9 lead after the first period. They extended the margin at 40-point mark at the interval and never looked back en route to the victory. Meral Abdelgawad (181-F-98) produced 13 points for the home side. Soulef Malkia (179-F-99) responded with 14 points for Algeria. Group BUganda - Tunisia 26-65Tunisia thumped Uganda in Group B opener. Marwa Shili (175-G/F-99) was pivotal with 32 points for the winners. Tunisia established a 46:19 halftime lead. Tunisia held Uganda scoreless in the third term and cleared off for good. Ghofrane Dhaouadi (170-PG-98) contributed 9 points in the victory. Brenda Ayere (98) responded with 10 points for Uganda. Mali - Mozambique 65-42 Mali opened their title defence with a comfortable win over Mozambique. Adama Coulibaly (175-G/F-98) came up with 19 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Mozambique grabbed a 13:9 lead after ten minutes. Mali however quickly bounced back. They grabbed a 24:21 halftime lead. Mali followed with a 22:13 run in the third term to gain a 12-point lead at the final intermission. Mali did not look back afterwards cruising to the victory. Aminata Diakite (166-PG-98) had 13 points for the winners. Silvia Veloso (172-G-98) responded with with 13 points for Mozambique. |
