Egypt celebrate title in Madagascar - Aug 14, 2022

Egypt won the championship in Madagascar. They stormed past the hosts today to earn the trophy. Egypt piled up a 41-21 halftime lead. Egypt then followed with a 20-12 rally in the final period to conquer the title. Ibrahim Zahran (194-F-2004) came up with 26 points, while Seifeldin Hendawy (197-F-2005) produced 12 points in the win. Mathias M'Madi (194-G-2005) and Lovasoa Andriatsarafara (207-C-2004) had 14 points each for Madagascar.
3-4 Place
Angola - Mali 54-79
Mali clinched the third spot in Madagascar. They rallied past Angola to climb onto the pedestal. Abdramane Kanoute (196-G-2004) notched 17 points, while Marwan Diallo (179-PG-2004) and Amadou Doumbia (208-C-2005) added 14 points each for the winners. Mali sank 47 points in the first half to take a 20-point lead. Mali extended the margin at 34-point mark at the final break and never looked back en route to the victory. Aginaldo Neto (2006) chipped in 17 points for Angola.

5-6 Place
Senegal - Guinea 66-53
Senegal held off Guinea to finish fifth in the championship. Senegal grabbed a 31-22 halftime lead. Guinea pulled within 6 points at the final break. But Senegal responded with a 22-15 run in the fourth term to seal the win. Mouhamed Faye (206-C-2005) produced 31 points and 19 rebounds, while Seydina Faye (209-PF-2005) added 15 points and 10 caroms for Senegal. Ibrahim Souare (C-2004) replied with 20 points for Guinea.

7-8 Place
Algeria - Benin 90-54
Algeria crushed Benin to earn the seventh overall position. Algeria dominated from start to finish. They piled up a 39-27 halftime lead. They erupted for 51 points in the second half to ease to the victory. Mehdi Bouhmama (2004) tallied 29 points and 14 rebounds, while Zakariya Khodja (182-G-2005) added 15 points for Algeria. Samoudine Moussa (184-G/F-2004) had 15 points for Benin.


Madagascar and Egypt to battle for title - Aug 12, 2022

Madagascar advanced into the title game at the home championship. The hosts held off heavy favourites Mali to secure the Final berth. Madagascar posted a 45-38 halftime lead. Mali narrowed the deficit at 2-point mark at the final break. Madagascar sank 20 points in the fourth quarter and got away with a key victory. Jerry Rabibisoa (203-C-2004) recorded 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Landric Rakotonanahary (198-F-2004) had 21 points for the winners. Abdramane Kanoute (196-G-2004) replied with 25 points for Mali.

Angola - Egypt 57-67
Egypt reached the title game in Madagascar. They overcame Angola in the second semifinal of the day. Egypt posted a 29-24 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 8-point mark heading into the fourth quarter. Egypt nailed 22 points in the final term and rallied to the victory. Mohamed Hendy (176-G-2004) came up with 15 points, while Belal Elshakery (199-F-2004) added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Bencao Vungo (2004) answered with 23 points for Angola.

Benin - Mali 46-106
Mali stormed past Benin to enter the semifinal stage. Mali piled up a 48-24 halftime lead. They unleashed 58 points in the second half and marched to the victory. Mahamadou Diarra (205-F/C-2005) accounted for 24 points and 17 rebounds, while Amadou Doumbia (208-C-2005) added 21 points for Mali. Madjidi Tanimou (189-F-2005) answered with 8 points for Benin.

Guinea - Madagascar 47-59
Madagascar outlasted Guinea to stay in the title race. The hosts posted a 31-21 halftime lead. They held Guinea to just 26 points in the second half and marched towards victory. Mathias M'Madi (194-G-2005) connected for 28 points, while Jerry Rabibisoa (203-C-2004) added 9 points and 15 rebounds for Madagascar. Ibrahima Diallo (170-PG-2004) chipped in 20 points for Guinea.

Algeria - Egypt 50-58
Egypt outscored Algeria to seal their semifinal ticket. Algeria eked out a 30-28 halftime lead. Egypt denied the deficit in the third term. They tied things up at 41 heading into the fourth quarter. Egypt then ignited a 17-9 run in the final period to seal the win. Ibrahim Zahran (194-F-2004) notched 13 points, while Belal Elshakary banked in 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Mehdi Bouhmama (2004) answered with 15 points and 9 rebounds for Algeria.

Angola - Senegal 67-64
Angola beat Senegal to reach the semifinal round in Madagascar. Angola piled up a 29-13 lead ten minutes into the game. Senegal pulled within five points at the final break. They got within striking distance in the fourth period but could not avoid the loss. Marcelo Joao (2004) provided 22 points, while Aloisio Andrade (200-C-2004) added 12 points for Angola. Ousmane Ndiaye (210-SF-2004) responded with 19 points and 11 boards for Senegal.

Guinea - Mali 39-74
Mali earned the third victory in Madagascar. They crushed Guinea to earn the first position in the ladder. Mali accumulated a 34-15 halftime lead. Angola topped Rwanda for the second victory in Group B. Angola clinched a 35-24 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 18-point mark at the final break. Rwanda cut the deficit in the fourth frame but could not avoid the loss. Aloisio Andrade (200-C-2004) tallied 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Eduardo Simao (2004) had 15 points for the winners. Brian Karenzi (195-G-2004), Arsene Ishimwe (201-SF-2005) and Hubert Kwizera (184-PG-2004) notched 9 points each for Rwanda.

Madagascar prevailed against Algeria for the second straight victory. Madagascar accounted for a 33-26 halftime lead. They protected the lead throughout the second half and marched to the win. Mathias M'Madi (194-G-2005) produced 20 points, while Landric Rakotonanahary (198-F-2004) added 12 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guinea - Angola 57-47
Guinea upset Angola to gain 2-1 record in Group B. Ibrahima Diallo (170-PG-2004) came up with 20 points to lead the charge. Guinea registered a 32-15 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 20-point mark in the third term and marched to the victory. Ibrahima Sanoh (C-2004) had 9 points for Guinea. Egypt - Rwanda 75-52
Egypt fired past Rwanda to gain 3-1 record atop of Group B. Egypt got off to a strong start. They posted a 26-12 lead after ten minutes. They went on a 32-23 second half rally to ice the victory. Ibrahim Zahran (194-F-2004) delivered 16 points for Egypt. Dick Rutatika (206-F-2004) delivered 16 points for Rwanda.

They used a 23-11 run in the third term to clear off for good. Ousmane Ndiaye (210-SF-2004) delivered 21 points, while Mouhamed Faye (206-C-2005) added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Chakib Sedoud (2004) answered with 20 points for Algeria.

Rwanda - Guinea 44-64
Guinea opened win count in Group B as they toppled Rwanda. Guinea trailed by three points at halftime 26-23. But they went on a massive 41-18 run in the second half to seal the win. Hubert Kwizera (184-PG-2004) netted 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for Rwanda. Ibrahima Sanoh (C-2004) replied with 15 points and 16 rebounds for Guinea.

Mali - Egypt 46-41
Mali topped Egypt to improve at 2-1 record in Group B. Mali held their opponents to just 11 points in the first half to take a 16-point halftime lead. Egypt went on a strong comeback rally in the second half but came up short at the end. Mahamadou Diarra (205-F/C-2005) produced 16 points, while Abdramane Kanoute (196-G-2004) had 14 points in the win. Mohamed Hendy (176-G-2004) hauled in 18 points for Egypt.

Angola U18 - Egypt U18 43-69

Egypt rout Angola 69-43 in the opener of the U18 African Championship. They opened the game with a 17-5 lead and dominated the rest of the game. Egypt ensured a bigger lead due to a 16-9 surge in the third quarter and nailed 27 points in the third period.
Mohamed Hendy top-scored for the winners with 16 points and Khaled Omar notched 14. Mohammed Khairy, Karim Elgizawy (188-G-2005) and Seifeldin Hendawy (197-F-2005) delivered 6 apiece, Marcelo Joao replied with 10 points in the losing effort.
