Senegal wins the title at U18 AfroBasket in

Senegal is the gold medal will in Maputo. They outplayed Ivory Coast in
U18 AfroBasket title game 71-62. The game was played on Saturday at the
Academica Stadium. It is important to mention that both teams will
compete at FIBA U19 World Championship next summer. Czech Republic will
be the host of this event.
Senegal registered 7-1 record in Maputo. They finished Preliminary Round
with 4-1 and their only loss came against the former champions Egypt. It
was enough for the second place in Group B. In the Quarterfinals,
Senegal eliminated host Mozambique 62-37. In the Semis, Senegal was
better than Mali 63-47.
This is the first ever gold medal for Senegal at U18 AfroBasket.

As curtain falls on the 18th edition of Africa top prime
youth competition, Afrobasket for U18 Men in Maputo, Mozambique today
two West Africa neighbours from FIBA Africa Zone-2 and Zone-3, Senegal
and Cote dIvoire will engage each other in the grand finale of the
championship that dunk-off over a week ago.
Both countries finished second and third in group-B
behind former champion Egypt with Senegal finishing the preliminary with
a 4-1 record while Cote dIvoire ended her preliminary campaign with a
3-2 records.
Senegal saw off host Mozambique in the quarter final and went on to edge
out Mali in the semis by 63-47 points on Friday, Cote dIvoire on the
other hand bundled Ghana out in the quarter final and upstage defending
champion Egypt in the semi final clinically by 57-42 points to set up a
grand finale duel against Senegal.
The game will hold at the gymnasium of Academica ISPU in Maputo,
Mozambique at 18H00.

Mali (3-1) is the winner of Preliminary Group A at U18 AfroBasket in
Maputo. Ghana, Mozambique and Tunisia also advanced to the
Quarterfinals.
In Group B, Egypt is No.1 with perfect 4-0 record. Senegal, Ivory Coast
and Angola are three other teams from this pool who booked a spot for
the next stage.
Egypt is the defending champion.
