Mozambican Nasir Sale is the new head coach of FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup title-holders Ferroviario de Maputo. The former head coach of Mozambique women's team was introduced Wednesday during Ferroviario de Maputo's 96th anniversary festivities. According to Ferroviario de Maputo chairman Teodomiro Angelo, "Coach Nasir Sale 's task is to maintain the good results." Ferroviario de Maputo won the last two FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup editions in Maputo (2018) and Cairo (2019), and for the Sale, it's challenge he looks forward to facing. "It's a huge responsibility to take the reins of a team that is currently a two-time African champion. We are going to try to continue this way of winning national and internationally. We want to remain at the top," said the man who lifted the FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup in 2007, 2008 and 2012. "This team is a combination of veterans and brilliant young players, who are talented enough to one day become important players for the club and country," noted the man, who guided his country to their first-ever FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in 2014. Sale returned to his home country a month ago after spending the past few months in Cote d'Ivoire. Over the past few years, Sale has coached Ferroviario da Beira (men's team), a team he led to the 2017 Mozambique Championship title. Ferroviario de Maputo have expressed their gratitude and faith in Sale: "We have a new coaching team with the aim of giving the club a new dynamic, especially after winning two continental titles in two years. "Our objective is to continue with the team's good results, which dignify our club and Mozambique as a whole," Angelo noted. Sale last coached Mozambique at FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017, where they finished fourth.
