ASS Sale, Libolo, ES Rades and US Monastir reach semifinals

City Oilers - US Monastir 71-96

US Monastir cruised into the semifinal stage. The game was mostly controlled by U.S. Monastir. City Oilers managed to win fourth quarter 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. U.S. Monastir dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to City Oilers' 42. They outrebounded City Oilers 44-33 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. U.S. Monastir looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by City Oilers' players. DR Congolese power forward Evariste Shonganya (204-92, agency: Promotex) notched 27 points and 9 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American-Puerto Rican guard Kyle Vinales (185-92, college: Cent.Conn.St.) supported him with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds by American-Ugandan power forward ADarius Pegues (208-88, college: Campbellsville) did not help to save the game for City Oilers. American Jordin Mayes (190-91, college: Arizona) added 20 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

GS Petroliers - ES Rades 87-89

ES Rades survived a thriller versus GS Petroliers to seal their semifinal appearance. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 23-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. 24 personal fouls committed by GS Petroliers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Dustin Salisbery (193-84, college: Temple) who led his team to a victory with 26 points. The other American import forward AJ Matthews (216-89, college: Farmingdale St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four ES Rades players scored in double figures. Forward Mohamed Harath (198-90) replied with 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and American guard Nicholas Covington (188-85, college: Oklahoma City) added 13 points and 4 assists in the effort for GS Petroliers. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.

Interclube - Libolo 65-71

Libolo saw off their Angolan rivals Interclube. They were already 15 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 17-8 Interclube's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 71-65 at the end of the game. American guard JeKel Foster (194-83, college: Ohio St., agency: Inception Sports) had a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Pedro Bastos (191-93) chipped in 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Paulo Barros (195-89) with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Nigerian-American Henry Uhegwu (191-82, college: S.Utah) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. ASS Sale dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Fer.Beira's 42. They outrebounded Fer.Beira 45-32 including a 35-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. ASS Sale looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Fer.Beira's players. It was a good game for power forward Abderrahim Najah (198-84) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Belgian point guard Yassine El-Mahsini (186-93, agency: Promotex) contributed with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Four ASS Sale players scored in double figures. Forward Elves Houana (204-87) replied with 13 points and guard Ivan Cossa (-90) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Fer.Beira. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
