Makiadi's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - Aug 11, 2017

Henry Okoth
28-year old Mickeal Makiadi (199-C/F-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Power and receives a Afrobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 20.
He had a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds, while his team beat Ndejje (#6, 5-4) 88-81. Power is placed at 2nd position in Ugandan league. They are still close to the very top. Power would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 8-2 record. Makiadi has many years of experience at Power, through which he has constantly improved. Makiadi has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 17.7ppg).

Second best performed player last round was Henry Okoth (F-99) of UPDF. He is a forward in his first season at UPDF. In the last game Okoth recorded impressive 31 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as UPDF lost that game 57-63 to slightly higher-ranked Sharing Youth (#8, 3-7). UPDF is still second from the bottom in the standings. 8 lost games are too many comparing to just three victories UPDF managed to get this year. Okoth is a newcomer at UPDF and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.3ppg (#1). He also registered 5.6 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Ndikumana Landry (F-93) of City Oilers (#5). Landry showcased his all-around game by recording 15 points, eleven rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. He was a key player of City Oilers, leading his team to a 73-52 easy win against the lower-ranked Sharing Youth (#8, 3-7). City Oilers needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 6 victories and 3 lost games. Landry has a great season in Uganda. After 10 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.1rpg (6th best). He also has 1.1bpg and FGP: 58.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Micheal Otieno (193-G-93) of Ndejje - 20 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Maker Deng (94) of Ndejje - 17 points and 9 rebounds
6. Steven Mwesigye (F) of Our Saviour - 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Michael Buzangu (F-82) of Pemba Warriors - 18 points and 3 rebounds
8. Kojo Micheal (C-87) of Power - 16 points and 7 rebounds
9. Tong Gatwech (F-92) of Sharing Youth - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Nasser Guddi (F-92) of Power - 15 points and 3 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Poor Start for City Oilers at FIBA Africa Champions Cup - 2 days ago
In the build up to this tournament, City Oilers Coach was quoted claiming that his side's top ambition was to win this title. However, if we are to go by their first game yesterday night, the four league National Basketball League champions still have a huge mountain to climb. City Oilers lost 64-102 to ES Rades of Tunisia, the tournament hosts. Many expected them to lose but not in such a poor fashion. Starting on court with Stanley Ocitti (203-F/C-80, college: Binghamton), Robinson Opon...   [read more]
