Power gain advantage over KIU Titans as Oilers, UCU reach final - Nov 15, 2016

KIU have ever only won two postseason series thus far defeating Pemba Warriors 2-1 last season before sweeping Startimes Falcons 2-0 last month. That makes them a lot inferior when compared to their Pepsi semifinal playoff opponents Betway Power who have five titles to their name. After assembling what is arguably the best roster in the league, the Hamza Nyambogo team were expected to break any barriers on their way to reach their target; a first ever final appearance. That however now hangs in balance as they trail 2-1 in the best of five series against Power following Sunday's 68-65 defeat at the Lugogo MTN Arena on Sunday evening. While some might point at the lack of pedigree, coach Nyambogo seems not to have helped himself by appearing undecided about how best to use his roster. Sudi Ulanga (181-PG), scorer of a team high 17 points in 30 minutes in game two was restricted to 11 minutes and two points, same as Norman Blick (199-F/G-83) who played five minutes. The veteran forward had scored 11 in 28 minutes previously. Power, led by Michael Makiadi pounced, with the forward scoring a game high 23 points and picking nine rebounds including a block with nine seconds left as they led 66- 65. 'The financial hardships we faced during the season has brought togetherness in the team. The players are playing for each other now,' Power coach Arnold Lando whose team can wrap up the series tomorrow. Three-time champions City Oilers await the winner of that series after they swept UCU Canons 3-0 following a 75-71 triumph. 'A few niggling injuries have started setting in so were are really keen on playing as few games as possible,' Jimmy Enabu said of the team's impending trip to the Fiba Africa Club Champions Cup.
