A couple of years ago the National Basketball Association (NBA) discussed the idea of introducing a four-point shot to the game. On Sunday at the Lugogo MTN Arena and about 7250 miles away from the US, a few Power fans believed the suggestion had been passed as Joseph Ikong (193-F/G)'s shot from behind the halfway mark sunk in. So too did the Power captain. 'I thought the new fiba rule was in play,' he stated of his buzzer beater afterwards. Instead he was awarded three points and completed with a game high 21 points as the five-time champions conceded game one of their best-of-five semifinal series 70-69 against KIU Titans. They had edged the opening two quarters 19-17 and 16-13 but KIU led by Ivan Lumanyika (F/C-92), fought back. The power forward picked 18 rebounds and 13 points before an elbow from Paul Odong caught him on the nose early in the fourth period. By then the Hamza Nyambogo coached side had used a 21-7 third quarter run to pull away with Chris Omanye (183-PG-94) top scoring with 15 points while Sudi Ulanga (181-PG) and Henry Malinga (196-C/F-79) added 12 apiece. Despite extending their unbeaten record to 22 games and possessing what appears the better roster, KIU also the second seeds were far from convincing. They almost let slip a 12 point lead with just over four minutes in the fourth quarter as Brian Oduor's free-throws made it a two point game at 66-64 with less than 40 seconds.

Poor Start for City Oilers at FIBA Africa Champions Cup - 1 day ago
In the build up to this tournament, City Oilers Coach was quoted claiming that his side's top ambition was to win this title. However, if we are to go by their first game yesterday night, the four league National Basketball League champions still have a huge mountain to climb. City Oilers lost 64-102 to ES Rades of Tunisia, the tournament hosts. Many expected them to lose but not in such a poor fashion. Starting on court with Stanley Ocitti (203-F/C-80, college: Binghamton), Robinson Opon...   [read more]
