City Oilers have over the past week hogged the headlines with their Zone V exploits inevitably overshadowing the National Basketball League as well as KIU Titans' remarkable unbeaten league run. The Hamza Nyambogo coached side will go into the playoffs on the back of a 19 game unbeaten sequence following Sunday evening's 69-53 win over Ndejje University Angels at YMCA. The result means Oilers now have to defeat UCU Canons in their final regular season game if they are to upstage the Titans' 19-3 record for top seed status. Samuel Aguttu scored 15 points Norman Blick (199-F/G-83) 13 and Jean Hakizimana added 11 to emphasize their deep roster. Innocent Ochera led with a game high 18 points for Ndejje who remain outside the eight playoff spots with a 6-14 record and a game to wind up their regular season. Power also improved to 16-4 following a 78-68 win over UPDF Tomahawks. Joseph Ikong and Michael Makiadi led with 22 and 17 points for Power who can finish as third seeds if they win their final game. The loss for UPDF for whom Stephen Wokorach led with 15 points dented their hopes of making the playoffs with the army side now locked at 8-12.
