The mood at City Tyres' headquarters on Sixth Street, Industrial Area, didn't represent one of extreme excitement, at least among the City Oilers' players. The club has become so accustomed to success. They made their newest baby, the Fiba Africa Zone V Club Championship triumph in Tanzania, look like a means not an end. "We are an ambitious club. We want to go Egypt to compete and perhaps win," Oilers' coach told a media briefing yesterday called to present their Zone V trophy yesterday. Oilers walloped Kenya's Ulinzi 72-49 in Dar-es-Salaam on Friday to qualify for December's Africa Club Champions' Cup to be held in Cairo, Egypt. The three-time National Basketball League defending champions are hoping to leave an inedible mark there to. You cannot bet against them doing so even if an African title seems like a mirage. In just five years of existence, Oilers have changed the outlook of the game here. Fuba president Ambrose Tashobya took pride in this kind of success coming just after a year when the national team, men and women, played at the Fiba Africa Nations Championship. "This success gives us a federation a lot of pride to have regional champions at club level," Tashobya, himself a pioneer Oiler in 2011, said. "I have seen this club pursue excellence always so it doesn't come as a surprise that our club or clubs should be winning the Zone V. "We have greatly narrowed the gap between and the countries around us. I hope we can now focus on growing our league and others should borrow a leaf to grow structures," he said. In the midst of flashing cameras, the club captain and Zone V Most Valuable Player (MVP Jimmy Enabu (183-G-88), flanked by Oilers' general manager Mohammed Santur presented the glittering trophy, with blue and green ribbons, to the City Tyres' management.
