Falcons captain Stephen Omony (198-G/F-79) was wearing a smile for large periods as KIU Titans struggled to beat Our Saviour 59-52 in the late game of the National Basketball League on Sunday evening. His appearances, like fellow Falcons' teammates, are more regular after the team's games in this second round of the National Basketball League. They had earlier on Sunday made it three wins in seven second games following a surprise 63-50 win over UCU Canons at YMCA Court. More satisfyingly for him must have been a fine individual performance that saw the veteran forward score 35 points as the record six time champions improved to 5-13 this season. "I have always maintained that we were not fighting relegation and I am just glad that the story is changing each day from fighting relegation to making the playoffs,' he noted after the game. He finished 4 for 12 from three-point range as well as converting 11-of-13 attempts on the line against a UCU Canons team that largely used a seven man rotation. This was after canons coach Nick Natuhereza decided against using the quartet of Brian Namake, Dickson Asiko, Juach Nyong and Brian Kasumba for arriving late. The Canons who are preparing for next month's Zone V tournament had Stephen Wundi top scoring with 11 points while Wal Madol added 10. The late game had the Titans who trailed until less than four minutes, use a 12-5 run to extend their unbeaten sequence to 12 games. Chris Omanye scored 12 points to lead three other Titans players Samuel Aguttu 11, Etienne Kazungu 10 and Geoffrey Soro 10 in double figures. Stephen Mwesigye and David Opolot had 13 each for Our Saviour that is winless in six second round games.

Poor Start for City Oilers at FIBA Africa Champions Cup - 1 day ago
In the build up to this tournament, City Oilers Coach was quoted claiming that his side's top ambition was to win this title. However, if we are to go by their first game yesterday night, the four league National Basketball League champions still have a huge mountain to climb. City Oilers lost 64-102 to ES Rades of Tunisia, the tournament hosts. Many expected them to lose but not in such a poor fashion. Starting on court with Stanley Ocitti (203-F/C-80, college: Binghamton), Robinson Opon...   [read more]
