Back in 2008 Power beat Startimes Falcons 3-1 in the playoff finals of the National Basketball League. With 11 titles between them, the two are also the most successful clubs on the domestic scene. But as they face off this evening in the men's game at YMCA, championship talk is highly unlikely to be top of the agenda. Power, despite possessing the second best record at 7-2, seemed miles behind in the 86-57 defeat to reigning champions City Oilers a month ago. If Power have at times appeared bad, Startimes Falcons have fared a lot worse. The six-time champions currently occupy the final two relegation places following a 2-7 start to the season that has also been hampered by injuries. But with veteran Stephen Omony (198-G/F-79) returning to fitness following hip injuries suffered in two motorbike accidents in recent months, they managed to stem the slide against UPDF, 10 days ago. The forward led with 38 points as they won 85-76 for only their second win of the campaign. Coach Brian Rugyendo will also be counting on more consistency from Vinnie Jurua and Ronald Bajjunga scorers of 15 and 12 points against UPDF. Power coach Brian Wathum should similarly be expecting a better performance from the 69-67 win over Charging Rhino a week ago.

But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Steven Mwesigye who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 9 rebounds, 5...   [read more]
