No Sponsors As Oilers Embark On Hunt for Fourth Title - May 7, 2016

The topflight basketball league will finally get underway this evening when champions City Oilers face off with KIU at the Lugogo MTN Arena. But not with a title sponsor as earlier promised by domestic basketball governing body Fuba. "We agreed on the basics after zeroing in on one of three options we had. Being a new sponsor, they requested for more time to prepare for a fitting launch that will happen 14 days from now," Fuba president Ambrose Tashobya stated at the league launch held at UOC offices yesterday afternoon. Other partners are however already on board with AAR expected to offer medical insurance, Hostalite to run the federation website and UBC to broadcast games starting with the regular season. Back on court, unlike in recent years, when the season's tip-off was contested by the previous year's top two best sides, this season pits City Oilers against last season's third-placed team in KIU.

Poor Start for City Oilers at FIBA Africa Champions Cup - 2 days ago
In the build up to this tournament, City Oilers Coach was quoted claiming that his side's top ambition was to win this title. However, if we are to go by their first game yesterday night, the four league National Basketball League champions still have a huge mountain to climb. City Oilers lost 64-102 to ES Rades of Tunisia, the tournament hosts. Many expected them to lose but not in such a poor fashion. Starting on court with Stanley Ocitti (203-F/C-80, college: Binghamton), Robinson Opon...   [read more]
