Salma Akinyi finally lands in Kampala - Mar 21, 2016

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

After weeks of indecision Salma Akinyi has finally joined JKL Dolphins in Kampala, Uganda. The want-away center had a hard time in deciding where she will play this season. A few weeks ago Salma played for KPA during the Harry Maina and Fred Oguttu Memorial Tournament at Strathmore University Grounds. Last Friday Kenya Basketball Federation confirmed last that she had signed for the coastal side, at the same time JKL Dolphins through their facebook page over a month ago indicated they had signed the Kenyan international. While talking to basketball254 last week, Salma has always insisted that she will not play for any team this season. She tried to talk to Equity Bank Hawks about her staying but her turn around hit a snag when her former team refused to resign her insisting they had released her because she wanted to leave. JKL Dolphins have also signed Purity Adhiambo and former Co-op Bank Kingdom Queens point guard Angella Namirimu. Co-op Bank shooting guard Grace Wanjiku played for JKL over the weekend during the UCU Invitational but it is not clear if she will be joining the Ugandan side. In her absence Co-op Bank lost 44-56 to KPA on Saturday. JKL lost to KCCA in the finals.

Lumanyika's double-double lands him Interperformances Player of the Week award - 4 days ago
25-year old center Ivan Lumanyika (C-92) put on an amazing game in the last round for JKL Dolphins and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 2. He had a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, while his team beat UPDF (1-3) 59-51. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Thanks to this victory JKL Dolphins moved-up to the 10th position in Ugandan league. Too late to salvage the team, which is curr...   [read more]

Joseph Chuma (F-91) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best KIU Titans and that's him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 1. The 26-year old forward had a double-double of 11 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team KCC Lions (#12, 0-2) with 27-point margin 82-55.
