Profile is new Mwanza basketball champions following their brilliant show in the just ended regional basketball league. The champions claimed this year's title after beating defending champions Bugando Planet 88-39 in a one-sided final at Bank of Tanzania (BoT) court over the weekend. Profile started the game with cracking pace and dominated the first quarter with voluminous 18-3 lead. The first quarter was dominated by Profile duo, Shaaban Bobo and Fredrick Luyenze who netted most of the points converted in the period. The second quarter saw Profile maintain the lead and this time it was Bashir Ashrafu who replaced Peter Jangu on brilliant form. His impact helped Planet to extend the lead to 29-7 at the end of the second quarter. Bugando planet introduced Benson Nyasebwa to replace Hekima Ngido in the third quarter, who, however, couldn't change the course as it was Profile who still dominated. They went ahead to claim a 40- 13 lead at the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter Profile defended resolutely while attacking their opponents at every opportunity. The winners introduced Basalile Mponjoli for Shaban Ally and Tumsifu Kilongo for Peter Jung, a move that apparently worked out. When the final whistle blew, Profile raced to the throne with 88-39 victory. Profile's Shabaan Ally led the score-sheet with 30 points followed by his team mate Lugina Laban who netted 21 points. Bugando Planet's top scorer was Amon Semberya, who bagged in 10 points Profile also produced the league's best player in Shabaan Bobo. The champions received a golden cup, medals and certificate of participation, while the runners-up got a silver cup, medals and a certificate too. The league involved nine teams from the region. They were Bugando Planet, Profile, Pasiansi Dolphins, Butimba Spiders, Mwanza Eagles, Warriors, Heat, St Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) and Bugando CUHAS.
