The National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) announced today that Dirk Nowitzki (213-F-78) (Dallas Mavericks; Germany), Kemba Walker (185-PG-90, college: Connecticut) (Charlotte Hornets; U.S.), Thabo Sefolosha (201-G-84) (Atlanta Hawks; Switzerland; parent from South Africa) and Luol Deng (206-F-85, college: Duke, agency: Interperformances) (Los Angeles Lakers; South Sudan) will serve as team captains for NBA Africa Game 2017. Nowitzki, a 13-time NBA All-Star and 2011 NBA Champion, along with Walker, a 2017 NBA All-Star, will co-captain Team World. Deng, a two-time NBA All-Star and Team Africa captain at NBA Africa Game 2015, and Sefolosha, an 11-year NBA veteran whose father was born in South Africa, will lead Team Africa. NBA Africa Game 2017, which will take place following the 15th edition of Basketball without Borders (BWB) Africa, will once again feature a Team Africa vs. Team World format and will be played in support of UNICEF, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and SOS Children's Villages South Africa (SOSCVSA).

The South African National Basketball squad returns to South Africa on Wednesday evening after winning bronze medal at the first-ever 2017 BRICS Games in Guangzhou China. The South Africans beat India 88-75 in the play-offs to earn themselves the medal in a nail-biting encounter. Russia rout South Africa in BRICS Games opener - 1 month ago
Russia-South Africa 74-45 Russia opened their Brics Games campaign with a confident win over South Africa in the opener. Russia rout the opponents 74-45 in Chinese Guangzhou. Russia managed to win all the quarters in the game including the second frame 23-6. Although at the halftime the favorites enjoyed a 38-16 surge.
