BNL Round 9: Derby game ends with Magic's defeat of Panthers - Oct 23, 2016

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in BNL. What a coincidence that all visitors won their games.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Johannesburg: Magic (#1) and Panthers (#2). Panthers were defeated at home 59-65 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Panthers. Undefeated Magic (8-0) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 8 victories in a row. Panthers at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Tshwane S.. Magic are looking forward to face N.C. Zebras (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Panthers will play against Suns (#4) in Tshwane and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Mountaineers (8-2) which played road game in Tshwane against second-best Suns (7-2). Third ranked Mountaineers managed to get a 5-point victory 70-65. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Suns. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Mountaineers. They moved-up to second place. Suns at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Soweto P.. Mountaineers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Suns will play against Panthers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in between E.C. Windbreakers and N.C. Zebras. Ninth ranked E.C. Windbreakers (2-6) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked N.C. Zebras (1-8). E.C. Windbreakers managed to escape with a 2-point win 100-98 in the game for the ninth place. E.C. Windbreakers maintains ninth place with 2-6 record. N.C. Zebras lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. E.C. Windbreakers will meet at home higher ranked Marlins (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. N.C. Zebras will play against the league's leader Magic where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
The game between 11th ranked Eagles (1-9) and second ranked Suns (7-2) in ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Tshwane outscored Eagles 84-42. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Suns. Despite that victory Suns went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Soweto P. Eagles at the other side stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Suns' next round opponent will be Panthers (#3) in Johannesburg, which may be the game of the day.

In the last game of round 9 W.C. Mountaineers beat E.C. Windbreakers on the road 83-67.

Tshwane S. - W.C. Mountaineers 65-70

Russia-South Africa 74-45 Russia opened their Brics Games campaign with a confident win over South Africa in the opener. Russia rout the opponents 74-45 in Chinese Guangzhou. Russia managed to win all the quarters in the game including the second frame 23-6. Although at the halftime the favorites enjoyed a 38-16 surge.
