The Federations of Basketball of Burundi and Somalia declared that they will not participate in the Zone 5 AFROBASKET U18 Qualifying tournament that will be held at AMAHORO Indoor Satdium in Kigali from 17th to 22nd July 2012. Particpating countries in the Zone 5 Qualifying tournament are Rwanda as host, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan. Farhiya Abdi first Somali to be drafted into the WNBA - 5 Years ago
The LA Sparks made history Tuesday afternoon by drafting Farhiya Abdi (188-F-92) from Sweden. The 6'2 forward was selected with the first pick of the second round (13th overall) and is the first Somali to be drafted in the WNBA. The 20 year old currently plays professional basketball for Czech Republics Frisco Brno where she is a rising star.
