MBU Rockers (Men division 1B/Men division 2) and Premium Cobras (Men division 1A) are the winners of the three Top-of-the-table competitions following last Saturday’s (November 5) finals played at Victoria Gymnasium.

Playmaker Sinon paces MBU Rockers
Men division 1B champions MBU Rockers, who will return to the top flight next year after making the drop at the end of the 2004 season when they lost to Cascade Bullets in the play-offs, met Men division 2 winners Pointe Larue Falcons in the Men division 1B/Men division 2 final.
Coached by Paul Denis, the Rockers, with playmaker and captain Nigel Sinon leading by example, scoring a game-high 25 points and dishing out a number of assists, won 70-57.
The scores at the end of each of the four quarters were as follows: 24-10, 13-11, 21-16 and 12-20.
Shooting guard Ryan Volcère was MBU Rockers’ second best scorer with 17 points, 15 of which came from beyond 3-point range, and centre Daniel Hoareau added 16.
Captain Nigel Sinon told Sports Nation that “we used the competition to work on some plays and at the same time we gave all our players playing time so that when they come off the bench they know what they have to do.”
Sam Gabriel led Pointe Larue Falcons in scoring with 17 points, Joel Lawen added 15 including three 3-pointers, and former MBU Rockers player Kevin Sinon chipped in with 11.

Kolawole leads Premium Cobras
The last time Premium Cobras Cobras met Baya in a final was in the Curtain-raiser decider which the former won 95-80. On that day Nigel Ah-kong fired in dagger 3-pointers for Premium Cobras but last Saturday he was sitting on their bench as assistant coach to Steve Hoareau. Premium Cobras won 100-67.
After captain and playmaker Giovanni Laval had opened the scoring for Baya, Premium Cobras’ swingman Cyril Agrippine and Nigerian guard Ozegya Mohammed Buhari went behind the 3-point arc to fire four consecutive treys on the way to winning all four quarters 23-19, 23-18, 29-14 and 25-16.
Although Agrippine and Buhari banked in the outside shots, combining for 32 points, Nigerian power forward Reuben Kolawole dominated the boards and top-scored with a game-leading 27 points.
Losers to Angels in last year’s final on a 71-73 score, Baya were led in scoring by Laval with 18 points and he was his team’s only player in double digits.
It is to note that the third place play-off matches played two weekends ago were won by Bel Air Blazers with a 68-62 victory over Anse Etoile (Men division 1B/Men division 2), Anse Etoile Stars with an 80-69 defeat of Hot Shots (women) and PLS Hawks with an over-time 57-55 score over PLS Dynamics (Men division 1A).

Baya clinch second league title in dominant fashion - 3 Years ago
The 2014 mens division one league title will settle in Bel Air this year as Baya managed to wrestle the league championship from challengers Mont Fleuri Dawgz. Baya title winning game took place at Victoria Gymnasium on Saturday evening where they faced the task of defeating an MBU Rockers side who had already defeated them in the first round. As this was a high profile match, the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) took every necessary precaution as they deployed police officers aroun...   [read more]
Dawgz keep title charge, Stars title defence in tatters - 3 Years ago
Mont Fleuri Dawgz kept their hopes of a first ever league title alive as they won their ninth game of the season, while Anse Etoile Stars suffered another defeat, making their title defence all the more difficult. Mont Fleuri Dawgz was victorious over RC Dynamics, a side that has yet to record a win this season. A win against a much improved Dawgz side was always going to be a tough task and the boys from Mont Fleuri showed their superiority as early as the first quarter where they scored...   [read more]
