Youssou Ndoye selected the top Senegalese players playing abroad in last week's games - Oct 7, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Senegalese players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Youssou Ndoye

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France). He led JL Bourg to a victory over the 16th-ranked JDA Dijon (0-3) 87-74 in the French ProA in Friday night's game. Ndoye was MVP of the game. He scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 27 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Ndoye's third season in pro basketball. JL Bourg Basket (2-1) is placed sixth in the ProA. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Ndoye has relatively good stats this year: 12.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 54.5% and FT: 66.7% in three games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former U18 international center Youssoupha Fall (221-95, currently plays in France). Fall contributed to an easy victory against the 12th-ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (1-2) 73-58 in the French ProA on Saturday night. He scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 17 minutes. Le Mans Sarthe Basket (3-0) is placed third in the ProA. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Fall averages: 7.7ppg, 3.7rpg, 2FGP: 73.3% and FT: 33.3% in three games. He played for the Senegalese U18 national team in 2012.

Babacar Toure

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Babacar Toure (205-85, currently plays in Switzerland). Toure was the major contributor in Fribourg's victory against the fifth-ranked Starwings (1-1) crushing them 102-65 in the Swiss SBL in Thursday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. Toure also added 3 blocks. Fribourg Olympic (2-0) is placed first in the SBL. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. It's Toure's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Toure averages: 17.5ppg, 9.5rpg, 2.0bpg, 2FGP: 36.0% and FT: 89.5%. He played for the Senegalese national team three years ago.

Mouhammad Faye

   #4. Forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece) was the main contributor in Promitheas' victory against one of league's weakest teams PAOK (0-1) 79-73 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Faye recorded 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 34 minutes. It was his first game for Promitheas this season. His team is placed fourth in the A1. Faye is also Senegalese national team player.

   #5. International forward Ibrahima Thomas (213-87, college: Cincinnati, currently plays in Japan) contributed to a Saitama Broncos' victory against the closely-ranked Tokyo Excellence (2-1) 90-84 in the Japanese B League D3 on Friday night. He was the top player that evening. Thomas recorded 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 20 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Saitama Broncos (2-1) are placed fourth in the B League D3. Thomas has very impressive stats this year: 22.5ppg and 3.5rpg in two games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team last year.

   #6. Center Mansour Kasse (208-92, currently plays in Switzerland) could not help Lakers (1-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance Lakers lost 69-74 on the road to the second-ranked Geneve Lions. Kasse was the second best scorer with 11 points. He also added 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 31 minutes. This year Kasse's overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5bpg in two games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #7. Former international power forward Jules Aw (202-86, currently plays in Switzerland) helped Massagno win their game against the closely-ranked Pully (1-1) 78-63 in the Swiss SBL on Sunday night. Aw recorded 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for Massagno this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed third in the SBL. Aw used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

   #8. Center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) helped Fukuoka Rizing win their game against the fifth-ranked Gunma (1-2) 70-66 in the Japanese B2 League in Sunday night's game. He scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 22 minutes. Fukuoka Rizing (3-0) is placed first in West group. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. This year Faye's total stats are: 7.5ppg, 9.0rpg and 1.5apg in two games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

Former international center Bamba Fall (217-86, college: SMU, currently plays in Estonia) helped TLU/Kalev win their game against the sixth-ranked Parnu (0-1) 78-72 in the Estonian Alexela KML in Friday night's game. He was the top player that evening. Fall recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds. It was his first game for TLU/Kalev this season. His team is placed second in the Alexela KML. The Regular Season already ended. Fall used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

Clevin Hannah

   #10. Point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Spain) was not able to help UCAM Murcia in their game against CB Canarias (2-0) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. He scored 7 points and added 7 passes in 23 minutes. UCAM Murcia lost 78-84 in Tenerife to the much higher-ranked (#4) CB Canarias. Hannah has averaged so far 6.0ppg, 2.5rpg and 6.0apg in two games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and American. Hannah is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #11. International center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Andorra in their game against Real Madrid in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Despite his good performance on Sunday night Diagne recorded 10 points. Diagne has averaged so far 7.0ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.5bpg. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He used to play for the Senegalese national team last year.

   #12. Former U18 international center Papa Mbaye (209-90, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Lleida Basquet in their game against Palma in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division), despite his very good performance on Friday night. Mbaye scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in a mere 19 minutes. But his team lost 89-94. This year Mbaye has relatively solid stats: 11.5ppg and 5.0rpg in two games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team back in 2008.

   #13. International center Abdoulaye Ndoye (207-95, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Ourense in their game against Cocinas.com in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Ndoye scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. His team was edged 72-70. Ndoye has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 5.5rpg. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #14. International center Moise Diame (206-86, currently plays in France) helped Brissac-Aubance win their game against the 15th-ranked SAP Vaucluse 76-70 in the French NM1 (third division) in Saturday night's game. Diame recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 12 rebounds (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line). Diame has reliable stats this season: 11.7ppg, 9.3rpg, 3.3apg and 1.7spg. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #15. An experienced former international guard Ousmane Gueye (192-82, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Montegrano in their game against Kleb Ferrara in the Italian Serie A2 (second division). Gueye recorded 7 points. It was his first game for Montegrano this season. His team was defeated 83-69. Gueye used to play for the Senegalese national team six years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) led Souffelweyersheim to a victory over the ninth-ranked SO Maritime Boulogne (1-2) crushing them 93-73 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. Mendy was the best player in that game. He scored 21 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. BC Souffelweyersheim (3-0) is placed fourth in the NM1. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Mendy has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 8.0rpg, 1.3apg and 1.7spg.

   #2. Michel Diouf (208-C-89, currently plays in Denmark) was the major contributor in Bakken's victory against the closely-ranked Horsens IC (2-1) 81-78 in the Danish Ligaen last Saturday. Diouf scored 13 points, had 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 26 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Bakken Bears (2-0) is placed third in the Ligaen. This year Diouf's overall stats are: 8.5ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.0bpg in two games he played so far.

   #3. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in Baskonia's victory against the closely-ranked Movil Estudiantes (0-1) 94-76 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Thursday night. He was the best player in that game. Diop scored 15 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (1-2) is placed tenth in the Liga Endesa. Diop is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in Baskonia's roster. This season he has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.3bpg. Diop has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #4. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Italy) managed to help EA7 Emporio Armani Milano to win against the 14th-ranked Vanoli Cremona (0-1) 76-60 in the Italian Serie A last Sunday. He recorded only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was his first game for Armani Milano this season. His team is placed third in the Serie A. M'Baye is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and French.

   #5. Pu Elliman (202-PG-91, currently plays in Japan) could not help Tokyo Cinq Reves (0-3) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Elliman's very good performance the bottom-ranked Tokyo Cinq Reves were crushed 92-65 in a derby game by the higher-ranked Otsuka Alphas Tokyo (#3). He recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 16 rebounds. This season Elliman has relatively solid stats: 14.5ppg, 14.5rpg and 1.5bpg.

   #6. Diarra Sidate (201-F-90, currently plays in Japan) was not able to help Gunma in their game against Fukuoka Rizing in the Japanese B2 League. Sidate scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. His team were defeated 70-66. Sidate has averaged so far 7.5ppg and 5.0rpg.

   #7. Mamadou Niang (209-C-94, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked Burgos 81-65 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. He recorded only one point in 5 minutes on the court. This year Niang averages only 0.5ppg in two games.

   #8. Yande Fall (203-C/F-90, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an easy victory against the 15th-ranked Senigallia crushing them 82-60 in the Italian Serie B (third division) in Sunday night's game. Fall had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 11 rebounds in 30 minutes. It was his first game for Recanati this season. Fall has both Senegalese and Italian nationalities.

   #9. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a 2-point Melilla Baloncesto's victory against the ninth-ranked La ICL Manresa 68-66 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. He scored 11 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks. This season Samb has relatively solid stats: 10.5ppg and 7.0rpg. He also holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite Samb's Senegalese nationality, he previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #10. Wally Niang (206-C-96, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Moron's victory against the 11th-ranked Fundacion 5+11 92-83 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Saturday. Niang recorded 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes. It was his first game for Moron this season.

Omar Lanani (ex FAR Rabat) joins Uhud - 2 hours ago
Uhud Medina (SBL) agreed terms with 30-year old Morocco ex-international power forward Omar Lanani (210-87). He is a dual citizen owning also Senegalese passport. Lanani played most recently at FAR Rabat in Moroccan D1 league. The previous (14-15) season he played at IRT Tanger (also in D1). Lanani helped them to make it to both league and Cup finals. 24-year old Senegalese international center Maodo Nguirane (210-105kg-93) left Akademik Bultex 99 Plovdiv (NBL). He is a dual citizen owning also Spanish passport. In 7 NBL games he had 8.1ppg and 8.1rpg this season. Nguirane also played 5 games in Balkan League where he recorded 4.6ppg and 4.6rpg. The last season he played at Castello in Spanish LEB Gold.
