Gorgui Dieng selected the top Senegalese players playing abroad in last week's games - Apr 15, 2017

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Senegalese players who are currently playing abroad.


Gorgui Dieng

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA). Dieng could not help the Minnesota Timberwolves (31-51) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his very good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves (31-51) were edged 100-98 on the road by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Dieng was the second best scorer with 19 points. He also added 8 rebounds and 3 assists. The Regular Season already ended in the NBA. It's Dieng's fourth season with the team. Dieng has relatively good stats this year: 10.0ppg, 7.9rpg, 1.9apg, 1.2bpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 51.1%, 3FGP: 38.1% and FT: 81.4%. He is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Pape Badji
Pape Badji
   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Pape Badji (208-92, currently plays in Belgium). Badji led Kangoeroes to a victory over the closely-ranked Antwerp Giants (18-11) 83-78 in the Belgian Euromillions League on Saturday night. He was MVP of the game. Badji had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 11 rebounds in 34 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Kangoeroes Basket Willebroek (16-13) is placed fourth in the Euromillions League. This year Badji has relatively solid stats: 13.5ppg, 6.7rpg, 2FGP: 61.0%(152-249) and FT: 61.3% in 28 games he played so far. He is in the roster of the Senegalese senior national team.

Maurice Ndour

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Maurice Ndour (206-92, college: Ohio, currently plays in NBA). He was not able to help the New York Knicks (31-51) in their last game. Despite Ndour's very good performance the New York Knicks (31-51) lost 88-101 in Memphis to the Grizzlies. He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Ndour also added 7 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 29 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. It was Knicks' third consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the NBA. It's Ndour's first year with the team. This season Ndour averages: 3.1ppg, 2.0rpg, 2FGP: 49.4%, 3FGP: 14.3% and FT: 73.1% in 32 games. He is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Lithuania) was not able to secure a victory for Lietuvos rytas (23-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Hannah's good performance Lietuvos rytas was edged 76-75 at home by the lower-ranked Juventus (#5). He scored 11 points and added 4 passes. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Hannah's first season with the team. Hannah's overall stats this year are: 6.6ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.6apg. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and American. Hannah is also Senegalese national team player.

Aziz N'Diaye

   #5. Former international center Aziz N'Diaye (213-88, agency: Babcock Sports, college: Washington, currently plays in Japan) was the main contributor in Dragonflies' victory against the sixth-ranked Kagoshima (7-45) 93-74 in the Japanese B League D2 in Sunday night's game. He was the best player in that game. N'Diaye scored 22 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in a mere 17 minutes. Hiroshima Dragonflies (41-12) are placed second in West group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year N'Diaye's overall stats are: 9.7ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.2bpg in 36 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

Youssou Ndoye

   #6. Center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France) contributed to a JL Bourg's victory against one of league's weakest teams Saint Chamond (10-18) 77-66 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Ndoye was the top player that evening. He recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 14 rebounds. Ndoye also added 3 assists and 2 blocks; not bad, considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. JL Bourg Basket (20-8) is placed first in the ProB. Ndoye has reliable stats this season: 13.9ppg, 9.4rpg, 1.3bpg and 1.1spg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #7. International center Cheikh Mbodj (208-87, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Cincinnati, currently plays in Poland) couldn't help Twarde Pierniki (19-10) in their last game. Despite Mbodj's good performance Twarde Pierniki lost 81-89 in Dabrowa Gornicza to the lower-ranked (#6) MKS Dabrowa Gornicza. He recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 23 minutes. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Mbodj's total stats are: 6.7ppg and 4.0rpg in three games. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #8. Forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece) couldn't help Promitheas (10-16) in their game against Olympiacos (22-0) in the Greek A1. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 30 minutes. But Promitheas was badly defeated 72-53 on their home court in Patras by the leading Olympiacos. The Regular Season already ended. Faye averaged so far 11.5ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.1apg in 23 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2015.

   #9. Former U18 international center Youssoupha Fall (221-95, currently plays in France) couldn't help Poitiers (15-13) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Poitiers lost 81-90 on their home court in Poitiers to the lower-ranked (#11) SPO Rouen. Fall had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 12 rebounds in 28 minutes. Fall averaged so far 10.3ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.5bpg in 27 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team five years ago.

An experienced swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware, currently plays in Japan) helped Toshiba Thunders win their game against the second-ranked Sanen Neophoenix (28-24) 89-76 in the Japanese B League last Friday. Diouf recorded 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Central. Toshiba Brave Thunders Kanagawa (44-9) is placed first. Diouf has been at the team for five years. He has averaged so far 6.6ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.5apg. Diouf is a former international player as ten years ago he still played for the Senegalese senior national team.

   #11. Former U18 international power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in Romania) helped UBT Cluj Napoca win their game against the second-ranked Craiova crushing them 100-74 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Monday night. He recorded 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 24 minutes. Barro averaged so far 11.1ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.5apg in 30 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team fifteen years ago.

   #12. International center Hamady N'Diaye (213-87, college: Rutgers, currently plays in Israel) helped Bnei Hasharon win their game against the closely-ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv 75-60 in the Israeli Winner League last Wednesday. He scored 6 points and blocked 2 blocks in only 11 minutes. N'Diaye has averaged so far 5.2ppg and 3.3rpg in 11 games. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #13. International center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in Spain) managed to help FC Barcelona Lassa to win against one of league's weakest teams Zaragoza 91-88 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. He recorded only 2 points. Diagne has averaged so far 3.1ppg and 3.6rpg. Worth to mention Diagne played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #14. International small forward Maleye N'Doye (202-80, college: Furman, currently plays in France) couldn't help Paris-Levallois in their game against Strasbourg IG in the French ProA. N'Doye scored 5 points in 21 minutes. His team lost 67-82. He has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 2.1rpg in 26 games. N'Doye plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #15. Former international center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Yokohama BC (15-37) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance the fifth-placed Yokohama BC were edged 69-66 in Tokyo by the higher-ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in the Central group. Faye recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. Faye has averaged so far 7.7ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.3apg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Italy) could not help Enel Brindisi (13-14) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Enel Brindisi was edged 94-93 at home by the one of league's weakest teams (#15) VL Pesaro. M'Baye was the top scorer with 29 points in 36 minutes. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's M'Baye's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. M'Baye averages: 18.3ppg, 5.1rpg and 2.4apg in 27 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and French. Despite M'Baye's Senegalese passport, he previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #2. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Baskonia's victory against the closely-ranked Gran Canaria (18-10) 95-90 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Friday night's game. Diop scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (19-8) is placed fourth in the Liga Endesa. Diop has been at the team for four years. This season he averages: 4.3ppg and 3.0rpg. Diop is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #3. Michel Diouf (208-C-89, currently plays in Denmark) led Bakken to a victory against the fifth-ranked Svendborg (13-15) 93-85 in the Danish Ligaen in Thursday night's game. Diouf recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 15 rebounds. Bakken Bears (24-4) is placed first in the Ligaen. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Diouf's stats this season are: 11.0ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.2apg and 1.3spg.

   #4. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) contributed to a 2-point Souffelweyersheim's victory against the 16th-ranked Vitre (13-19) 80-78 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. Mendy scored 9 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. BC Souffelweyersheim (21-11) is placed third in the NM1. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Mendy has averaged so far 9.1ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.5apg.

   #5. Experienced Mamadou Dia (201-C/F-78, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked ALM Evreux (15-13) crushing them 108-73 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. Dia recorded 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. FOS Provence Basket (19-9) is placed second in the ProB. Dia is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his 11th year in Provence Basket's roster. He has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 2.6rpg. Dia has both Senegalese and French nationalities.

   #6. Mouhamed Barro (205-F-95, currently plays in Spain) led Oviedo CB to a victory over the league outsider Marin crushing them 89-55 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Sunday. He was the top player that evening. Barro recorded 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. He has averaged so far 5.0ppg and 3.9rpg.

   #7. Pape Sow (205-F/C-93, currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in a CB Guadalajara's victory against the eighth-ranked CBA Gran Canaria B 104-90 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night. Sow was the top player that evening. He had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 10 rebounds in 20 minutes. Sow averaged so far 10.3ppg and 5.1rpg in 14 games.

   #8. Papa Beye (202-F/C-89, currently plays in France) contributed to an ALM Evreux's victory against the 16th-ranked SO Maritime Boulogne 86-76 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Beye scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 19 minutes. He has averaged so far 6.4ppg and 4.3rpg in 27 games.

   #9. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Palencia Baloncesto in their game against Barca II in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Samb recorded 8 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in 28 minutes. His team was edged 69-67. He averaged so far 10.8ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.2bpg in 22 games. Samb also holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite his Senegalese nationality, Samb previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and probably cannot be called to the Senegalese team.

   #10. Abdou Thiam (204-F/C-98, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in Betanzos' victory against the fifth-ranked BVM 2012 86-81 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. He had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 15 rebounds in 26 minutes. Thiam averaged so far 11.0ppg and 10.0rpg in 24 games.

ASP Promitheas Patras (A1) added to their roster 32-year old Senegalese ex-international forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU). It is actually his comeback to Patras as he has played here before. Faye played last season at Sagesse in Lebanese Pepsi LBL. In only one game he recorded 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. Faye also played that season for Promitheas where in 23 A1 games he averaged 11.5ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.1apg. Poderosa Basket Montegranaro (Serie B) re-signed experienced 35-year old former Senegalese international guard Ousmane Gueye (192-82kg-82). He played there last season. Gueye won Italian Serie B championship title. Among other achievements he received Eurobasket.com Italian Nazionale A All-Defensive Team award back in 2013.
