Maurice Ndour's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among Senegalese players playing currently abroad: - Apr 8, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Senegalese players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Maurice Ndour

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Maurice Ndour (206-92, college: Ohio, currently plays in NBA). He led New York Knicks to a victory against the Chicago Bulls (39-40) 100-91 in the NBA last Tuesday. Ndour recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 12 rebounds. The New York Knicks have 30-50 record this season. There are only two games left until the end of the NBA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Ndour averages: 2.9ppg, 2.1rpg, 3FGP: 14.3% and FT: 72.7%. He is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Pape Badji

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Pape Badji (208-92, currently plays in Belgium). Badji could not help Kangoeroes (15-13) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Kangoeroes lost 87-95 on the road to the lower-ranked (#5) Okapi Aalstar. Badji was the top scorer with 23 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 34 minutes. It's Badji's first season with the team. Badji has relatively good stats this year: 13.1ppg, 6.6rpg, 2FGP: 59.8%(143-239) and FT: 62.0% in 27 games he played so far. He is in the roster of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international small forward Maleye N'Doye (202-80, college: Furman, currently plays in France). N'Doye was the major contributor in Paris-Levallois' victory against the closely-ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (18-8) crushing them 86-64 in the French ProA in Sunday night's game. He recorded 16 points. Paris-Levallois (16-10) is placed sixth in the ProA. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. N'Doye has been at the team for five years. N'Doye's overall stats this season are: 4.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 2FGP: 51.0%, 3FGP: 30.4% and FT: 55.6%. He is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #4. Center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Minnesota Timberwolves (31-48) in their last game. Despite Dieng's good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves (31-48) lost 117-123 in Sacramento to the Kings. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 37 minutes. It was Timberwolves' third consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the NBA Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Dieng is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Timberwolves' roster. This season Dieng has relatively solid stats: 9.9ppg, 7.9rpg, 1.9apg, 1.2bpg and 1.1spg in 79 games. He is also Senegalese national team player.

International center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France) led JL Bourg to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Saint Chamond (10-17) 77-66 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. Ndoye was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 14 rebounds. Ndoye also added 3 assists and 2 blocks; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. JL Bourg Basket (19-8) is placed first in the ProB. Ndoye has reliable stats this season: 13.8ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.3bpg and 1.1spg. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #6. Point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Lithuania) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Vytautas (16-14) crushing them 109-60 in the Lithuanian LKL in Sunday night's game. Hannah scored 9 points and added 4 assists in 16 minutes. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (22-8) is placed second in the LKL. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. This year Hannah's overall stats are: 6.2ppg, 1.4rpg and 2.5apg in 13 games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and American. Hannah is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

Former international center Aziz N'Diaye (213-88, agency: Babcock Sports, college: Washington, currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Dragonflies (40-11) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the second-placed Dragonflies (40-11) were crushed 72-50 in Shimane by the leading Magic in the West group. N'Diaye was the top scorer with 17 points. He also added 8 rebounds. N'Diaye's total stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.2bpg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

   #8. Power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in Romania) contributed to an UBT Cluj Napoca's victory against the third-ranked Steaua CSM (17-11) 90-84 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Wednesday night. Barro recorded 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 29 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-6. U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca (24-4) is placed first in Places 1-6 group. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be important. Barro's stats this year are: 11.5ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.5apg in 28 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team back in 2002.

Former international swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware, currently plays in Japan) contributed to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked Yokohama BC (15-35) 85-68 in the Japanese B League last Saturday. He scored 8 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 25 minutes. Toshiba Brave Thunders Kanagawa (43-8) is placed first in Central group. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Diouf plays fifth season for the team. This year Diouf's total stats are: 6.5ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.6apg in 40 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

Center Cheikh Mbodj (208-87, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Cincinnati, currently plays in Poland) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Polfarmex (4-23) crushing them 98-77 in the Polish PLK in Friday night's game. He recorded 7 points (made all of his five free throws) in only 7 minutes. It was his first game for Twarde Pierniki this season. His team is placed fourth in the PLK. Mbodj is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #11. Former U18 international center Youssoupha Fall (221-95, currently plays in France) couldn't help Poitiers (14-13) in their last game. Despite Fall's very good performance Poitiers lost 81-90 at home to the lower-ranked (#12) SPO Rouen. He had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 12 rebounds in 28 minutes. Fall averaged so far 10.3ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.5bpg in 26 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team five years ago.

   #12. International center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help FC Barcelona in their game against Gran Canaria in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Diagne cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points in 9 minutes on the court. His team lost 82-95. Diagne has averaged so far 3.3ppg and 3.7rpg in six games. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #13. Former international forward Papa Dia (208-87, college: SMU, currently plays in Finland) was the main contributor in a BC Nokia's victory against the closely-ranked Joensuun Kataja 79-75 in the Finnish Korisliiga last Wednesday. Dia was the best player in that game. He scored 16 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Dia averaged so far 14.2ppg, 6.7rpg and 1.2apg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team six years ago.

   #14. Former international forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece) managed to help ASP Promitheas Patras to win against the closely-ranked Kymis crushing them 81-57 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. Faye scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Faye averaged so far 11.7ppg and 6.0rpg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2015.

   #15. International center Hamady N'Diaye (213-87, college: Rutgers, currently plays in Israel) contributed to a Bnei Hasharon's victory against the league leader Maccabi T-A 94-88 in the Israeli Winner League in Sunday night's game. He recorded only 4 points in 8 minutes on the court. N'Diaye has averaged so far 5.2ppg and 3.7rpg in nine games. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Euroleague) was the major contributor in Baskonia's victory against the 12th-ranked Galatasaray (11-19) crushing them 103-80 in the Euroleague in Friday night's game. He scored 18 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 25 minutes. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (17-13) is placed seventh in the Euroleague. Diop's team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. It's Diop's fourth season with the team. This year he averages: 4.0ppg and 2.7rpg in 30 games he played so far. Diop has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #2. Michel Diouf (208-C-89, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to an easy victory against the fifth-ranked Svendborg (13-15) 95-79 in the Danish Ligaen in Thursday night's game. Diouf recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 12 rebounds. Bakken Bears (24-4) is placed first in the Ligaen. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Diouf averaged so far 11.3ppg, 6.9rpg, 2.2apg and 1.1spg.

   #3. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) contributed to a 2-point Souffelweyersheim's victory against the 16th-ranked Vitre (13-19) 80-78 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. Mendy scored 9 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. BC Souffelweyersheim (21-11) is placed third in the NM1. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Mendy has averaged so far 9.1ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.5apg.

   #4. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) led Palencia Baloncesto to a victory over the 11th-ranked Araberri (13-18) 90-83 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Sunday. He was the best player in that game. Samb scored 24 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Quesos Cerrato de Palencia (20-11) is placed fourth in the LEB Gold. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Samb averaged so far 10.8ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.2bpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite Samb's Senegalese nationality, he previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #5. Papa Beye (202-F/C-89, currently plays in France) contributed to an ALM Evreux's victory against the 11th-ranked Nantes (13-14) 96-90 in the French ProB (second division) in Tuesday night's game. Beye scored 13 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks. ALM Evreux Basket (15-12) is placed fifth in the ProB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Beye has averaged so far 6.4ppg and 4.3rpg.

   #6. Experienced Mamadou Dia (201-C/F-78, currently plays in France) contributed to a Provence Basket's victory against the sixth-ranked ADA Blois 83-72 in the French ProB (second division) last Tuesday. He scored 13 points in a mere 19 minutes. Dia has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 2.5rpg in 27 games. He has both Senegalese and French nationalities.

   #7. Mamadou Niang (209-C-94, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Iberostar Tenerife CB Canarias to win against the 15th-ranked Zaragoza 65-54 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. Niang scored only one point. Niang has averaged so far 2.6ppg and 2.1rpg.

   #8. Adama Ba (209-F/C-98, currently plays in Italy) helped Matera win their game against the 15th-ranked Taranto 93-78 in the Italian Serie B (third division) on Sunday night. Ba had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 12 rebounds in 34 minutes. Ba has averaged so far 4.1ppg and 4.1rpg in 20 games. He also holds two passports: Senegalese and Italian.

   #9. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Italy). M'Baye could not help Enel Brindisi to beat Banco di Srd. He recorded only 4 points in 33 minutes. His team was edged 79-78. M'Baye has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.2ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.4apg and 1.1bpg in 25 games. M'Baye holds both Senegalese and French passports.

   #10. Alioune Senghor (200-C-96, currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in a Innova Chef's victory against the 12th-ranked La Fecha crushing them 85-65 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night. He was the top player that evening. Senghor recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 11 rebounds (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line). Senghor averaged so far 14.7ppg and 7.5rpg.

Papa Mbaye extends contract with Lleida - 9 days ago
Lleida secured the services of Papa Mbaye for the next season. The Senegalese centre has agreed on terms of contract extension. Papa Mbaye joined Lleida at the start of the season. He notched 6.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in LEB Gold. Previously Papa Mbaye played for FC Barcelona II and Cornella. He was named All-Spanish LEB Silver Defensive Player of the Year back in 2012.   [read more]
