Pape Badji's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among Senegalese players playing currently abroad: - Mar 25, 2017

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Senegalese players who are currently playing abroad.


Pape Badji

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Pape Badji (208-92, currently plays in Belgium). He led Kangoeroes to a victory over the closely-ranked Limburg United (13-13) 98-91 in the Belgian Euromillions League in Friday night's game. Badji was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 10 rebounds in 26 minutes on the court. Kangoeroes Basket Willebroek (14-12) is placed fourth in the Euromillions League. Badji has relatively good stats this year: 12.7ppg, 6.5rpg, 2FGP: 58.2%(128-220) and FT: 60.4% in 25 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Moussa Diagne

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Joventut (7-17) crushing them 76-56 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. Diagne recorded 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 13 minutes. FC Barcelona Lassa (16-7) is placed third in the Liga Endesa. This year Diagne averages: 3.3ppg, 1.8rpg, 2FGP: 45.5% and FT: 75.0% in four games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish. Worth to mention Diagne played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Diagne is in the roster of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the Minnesota Timberwolves (28-43) in their last game on Friday. Despite Dieng's good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves (28-43) were defeated 130-119 on the road by the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored 14 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 3 blocks. It's Dieng's fourth season with the team. This year Dieng has relatively solid stats: 9.9ppg, 7.8rpg, 1.8apg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 51.3%, 3FGP: 34.3% and FT: 79.6%. He is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Lithuania) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Siauliai (3-24) crushing them 87-63 in the Lithuanian LKL last Saturday. Hannah recorded 10 points and added 7 passes in 18 minutes. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (19-8) is placed third in the LKL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Hannah's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 6.3ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.3apg in 11 games. Hannah is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and American. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #5. An experienced former U18 international power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in Romania) contributed to an UBT Cluj Napoca's victory against the second-ranked Steaua CSM (15-9) 80-75 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Saturday night's game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 30 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-6. U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca (21-3) is placed first in Places 1-6 group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Barro has reliable stats this year: 11.6ppg, 7.2rpg and 1.6apg in 25 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team fifteen years ago.

Center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in a JL Bourg's victory against the tenth-ranked ALM Evreux (12-12) crushing them 87-66 in the French ProB (second division) last Saturday. Ndoye recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks and 4 steals; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Ndoye's second season in pro basketball. JL Bourg Basket (17-7) is placed first in the ProB. Ndoye's stats this season are: 13.5ppg, 9.2rpg and 1.3bpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #7. Former international forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Promitheas (9-14) in their last game. Despite Faye's good performance Promitheas lost 80-84 at home to the higher-ranked (#7) AGOR. He recorded 14 points in 24 minutes. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Faye's stats this year are: 12.1ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.1apg in 20 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

Swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware, currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Toshiba Thunders (38-8) in their game against Aishin Sea Horses (36-10) in the Japanese B League. He recorded 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 21 minutes. The first-placed Toshiba Thunders (38-8) lost 78-87 in Kariya to the leading Aishin Sea Horses in the Central group. Diouf has been at the team for five years. This season Diouf's total stats are: 6.8ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.5apg and 1.1spg in 36 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2007.

International small forward Maleye N'Doye (202-80, college: Furman, currently plays in France) contributed to a 1-point Paris-Levallois' victory against the 15th-ranked Cholet Basket (8-16) 75-74 in the French ProA in Friday night's game. He scored 7 points in 17 minutes. Paris-Levallois (14-9) is placed fifth in the ProA. N'Doye plays fifth season for the team. N'Doye has averaged so far 4.0ppg and 2.1rpg in 23 games. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #10. Center Papa Mbaye (209-90, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Lleida Basquet (15-14) in their last game on Friday. Despite Mbaye's very good performance Lleida Basquet was defeated 79-73 on the opponent's court by the league outsider Marin (#18). He was the top scorer with 18 points. Mbaye also added 5 rebounds. Mbaye has averaged so far 6.9ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.1bpg. He is a former U18 international player as nine years ago he still played for the Senegalese national team.

   #11. Former international center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) contributed to an easy victory against the second-ranked Osaka Evessa 90-73 in the Japanese B League on Saturday night. Faye had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 12 rebounds in 37 minutes. Faye has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 7.2rpg and 1.2apg in 45 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

   #12. Former international center Aziz N'Diaye (213-88, agency: Babcock Sports, college: Washington, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Dragonflies in their game against Kumamoto Vorters in the Japanese B League D2. He scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 16 minutes. His team were edged 59-56. N'Diaye has averaged so far 9.2ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.3bpg in 30 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2007.

   #13. Former U18 international power forward Cheikh Sane (207-92, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Marshall, currently plays in Greece) couldn't help Koroivos in their game against AEK Athens in the Greek A1. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Sane recorded only 3 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 28 minutes. His team was crushed by 26 points 89-63. He has averaged so far 1.5ppg and 4.8rpg in four games. Sane used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team nine years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international forward Daniel Gomis (208-91, college: Oregon St., currently plays in New Zealand) couldn't help Mountain Airs (1-1) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance Mountain Airs were defeated 85-81 in Auckland by the second-ranked Rangers. Gomis recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 2 blocks. Gomis has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 14.0rpg, 3.5apg, 2.0bpg and 1.5spg. He used to play for the Senegalese U20 national team back in 2008.

   #15. Former international forward Papa Dia (208-87, college: SMU, currently plays in Finland) couldn't help BC Nokia in their game against Tampereen Pyrinto in the Finnish Korisliiga, despite his very good performance on Wednesday night. Dia was the second best scorer with 14 points in 21 minutes. But his team was edged 82-81. He averaged so far 13.9ppg and 6.8rpg in 29 games. Dia used to play for the Senegalese national team six years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Euroleague). Diop could not help Baskonia (16-12) to beat Panathinaikos (17-11). He recorded 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Baskonia was defeated 72-63 at home by the higher-ranked Panathinaikos (#5). It was Baskonia's first loss after four consecutive victories. There are only two games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Diop's fourth season with the team. This year Diop averages: 3.4ppg and 2.5rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #2. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help Enel Brindisi (11-12) in their last game on Sunday. Despite M'Baye's very good performance Enel Brindisi was defeated 83-77 on the road by the lower-ranked AV Cantu (#11). He was the top scorer with 17 points. M'Baye has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.2ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.4apg and 1.1bpg. M'Baye is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and French. Despite his Senegalese nationality, M'Baye previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #3. Michel Diouf (208-C-89, currently plays in Denmark) led Bakken to an easy victory against the league outsider Stevnsgade (2-26) crushing them 117-60 in the Danish Ligaen in Monday night's game. Diouf recorded 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Bakken Bears (24-4) is placed first in the Ligaen. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Diouf averaged so far 11.1ppg, 6.2rpg, 2.3apg and 1.2spg.

   #4. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Souffelweyersheim (19-11) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Mendy's good performance Souffelweyersheim was defeated 86-80 in Challans by the lower-ranked Vendee (#8). He was the second best scorer with 13 points. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Mendy has averaged so far 9.2ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.5apg.

   #5. Experienced Mamadou Dia (201-C/F-78, currently plays in France) couldn't help Provence Basket (16-8) in their game against Nantes (12-12) in the French ProB (second division). Dia scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Provence Basket was badly defeated 81-63 on the opponent's court by the much lower-ranked Nantes (#9). Dia is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his 11th year in Provence Basket's roster. He has averaged so far 9.2ppg and 2.3rpg. Dia has both Senegalese and French nationalities.

   #6. Tacko Fall (229-C-95, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Cent.Florida's victory against the University of Illinois 68-58 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 3 on Wednesday night. Fall recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. He also added 3 blocks. Fall averaged so far 11.0ppg, 9.7rpg and 2.5bpg.

   #7. Papa Beye (202-F/C-89, currently plays in France) couldn't help ALM Evreux in their game against Poitiers in the French ProB (second division). He scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 14 minutes. His team was edged 92-90. Beye has averaged so far 6.0ppg and 4.2rpg in 24 games he played so far.

   #8. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Palencia Baloncesto's victory against the league outsider Marin 84-74 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Saturday night's game. He recorded 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 26 minutes. Samb averaged so far 10.3ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.2bpg in 20 games. He also holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite Samb's Senegalese nationality, he previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and probably cannot be called to the Senegalese team.

   #9. Mouhamed Barro (205-F-95, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Oviedo CB (18-10) in their last game on Friday. Despite Barro's good performance Oviedo CB was defeated 87-78 in San Sebastian by the leading Gipuzkoa. He recorded 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Barro has averaged so far 4.2ppg and 3.3rpg.

   #10. Bruno Diatta (208-F-96, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in Villarrobledo's victory against the second-ranked Alcobendas crushing them 79-57 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night. He scored 17 points, had 8 rebounds and made 4 blocks. Diatta has averaged so far 8.8ppg and 8.7rpg.

Papa Mbaye extends contract with Lleida - 5 days ago
Lleida secured the services of Papa Mbaye for the next season. The Senegalese centre has agreed on terms of contract extension. Papa Mbaye joined Lleida at the start of the season. He notched 6.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in LEB Gold. Previously Papa Mbaye played for FC Barcelona II and Cornella. He was named All-Spanish LEB Silver Defensive Player of the Year back in 2012.   [read more]
