Pape Badji's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among Senegalese players playing currently abroad: - Mar 18, 2017

Pape Badji

   #1. This week's number one is former international power forward Pape Badji (208-92, currently plays in Belgium). He led Kangoeroes to a victory over the league outsider Liege Basket (6-19) 105-86 in the Belgian Euromillions League in Wednesday night's game. Badji was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 26 points and getting 12 rebounds in 27 minutes on the court. Kangoeroes Basket Willebroek (14-11) is placed fourth in the Euromillions League. It's Badji's first season with the team. Badji has relatively good stats this year: 12.7ppg, 6.5rpg, 2FGP: 58.2%(128-220) and FT: 60.4% in 25 games he played so far. He played for the Senegalese senior national team two years ago.

Ousmane Barro

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former U18 international power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in Romania). He contributed to an UBT Cluj Napoca's victory against the second-ranked Steaua CSM (14-8) 80-75 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Saturday night. Barro scored 17 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 30 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-6. U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca (19-3) is placed first in Places 1-6 group. This year Barro has relatively solid stats: 11.6ppg, 7.2rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 66.5%(111-167) and FT: 69.5% in 24 games. He played for the Senegalese U18 national team in 2002.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA). Dieng contributed to an easy victory against the Washington Wizards (42-26) 119-104 in the NBA in Monday night's game. He scored 10 points, had 9 rebounds and made 3 blocks. The Minnesota Timberwolves have 28-40 record this season. Dieng is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Timberwolves' roster. Dieng has reliable stats this season: 9.8ppg, 7.9rpg, 1.8apg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 50.8%, 3FGP: 34.4% and FT: 78.8%. He is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Youssou Ndoye

   #4. Center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in a JL Bourg's victory against the eighth-ranked ALM Evreux (12-11) crushing them 87-66 in the French ProB (second division) last Saturday. Ndoye had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks and 4 steals in 35 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Ndoye's second season in pro basketball. JL Bourg Basket (17-6) is placed first in the ProB. Ndoye's stats this year are: 13.4ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.3bpg and 1.1spg in 23 games. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #5. Former international forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece) contributed to Promitheas' victory against the closely-ranked Aiolos Trikallon (8-13) 67-62 in the Greek A1 on Saturday night. Faye scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. ASP Promitheas Patras (9-13) is placed eighth in the A1. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Faye's stats this season are: 12.1ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

Center Aziz N'Diaye (213-88, college: Washington, currently plays in Japan) was the main contributor in Dragonflies' victory against the sixth-ranked Iwate Big Bulls (10-35) crushing them 98-66 in the Japanese B League D2 last Sunday. N'Diaye was the best player in that game. He recorded 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Hiroshima Dragonflies (36-10) are placed second in West group. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season N'Diaye averages: 9.4ppg, 7.2rpg and 1.3bpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Senegalese senior team ten years ago.

   #7. Former international swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware, currently plays in Japan) contributed to a 3-point Toshiba Thunders' victory against the fourth-ranked Kyoto Hannaryz (20-24) 83-80 in the Japanese B League on Friday night. Diouf scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 23 minutes. Toshiba Brave Thunders Kanagawa (37-8) is placed first in Central group. Diouf has been at the team for five years. This season his overall stats are: 6.8ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1spg in 34 games. Diouf used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

   #8. Power forward Jules Aw (202-86, currently plays in Switzerland) contributed to a Lugano Tigers' victory against the eighth-ranked Boncourt (7-12) 83-72 in the Swiss LNA last Saturday. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 15 rebounds in 30 minutes. Lugano Tigers (13-7) are placed third in the LNA. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Aw averaged so far 11.0ppg, 9.8rpg and 1.7apg in 10 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2007.

   #9. Former international center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) could not help Yokohama BC (15-29) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Faye's good performance the fifth-placed Yokohama BC (15-29) were defeated 75-66 at home by the lower-ranked Ryukyu GK (#5) in the Central group. He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Faye also added 3 assists. Faye's total stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.3apg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

   #10. Forward Sitapha Savane (202-78, college: Navy, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Movil Estudiantes (17-5) in their last game. Despite Savane's good performance Movil Estudiantes was badly defeated 82-63 on the road by the leading CB Canarias. He was the second best scorer with 10 points in 17 minutes. This year Savane's total stats are: 5.8ppg and 3.1rpg in 22 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #11. International small forward Maleye N'Doye (202-80, college: Furman, currently plays in France) helped Paris-Levallois edge the 15th-ranked Cholet Basket 75-74 in the French ProA on Friday night. He scored 7 points in 17 minutes. N'Doye has averaged so far 4.0ppg and 2.1rpg in 23 games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #12. International center Hamady N'Diaye (213-87, college: Rutgers, currently plays in Israel) was not able to secure a victory for Bnei Hasharon in their game against Maccabi Ashdod in the Israeli Winner League. N'Diaye recorded 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. His team was crushed by 24 points 94-70. N'Diaye has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 3.3rpg. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #13. International guard Louis Adams (193-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Wyoming win their game against the Eastern Washington University 91-81 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 1 in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes. Adams has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.1apg in 29 games. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #14. International center Abdoulaye Ndoye (207-95, currently plays in Spain) managed to help RETAbet Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian to win against the closely-ranked Leche Rio Breogan 92-86 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Saturday night's game. Ndoye scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. He has averaged so far 5.6ppg and 4.4rpg. Ndoye plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #15. International point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Lithuania) helped Lietuvos rytas win their game against the eighth-ranked Dzukija 76-72 in the Lithuanian LKL last Saturday. He scored only 2 points in 10 minutes. Hannah has averaged so far 5.9ppg and 1.8apg in nine games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and American. Hannah is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Italy) was the major contributor in a Enel Brindisi's victory against the closely-ranked Brescia (10-12) 91-81 in the Italian Serie A last Sunday. M'Baye recorded 21 points. Enel Basket Brindisi (11-11) is placed ninth in the Serie A. M'Baye has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.3ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.5apg and 1.1bpg. M'Baye has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and French. Despite his Senegalese passport, M'Baye previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #2. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Spain). Diop could not help Baskonia (16-7) to beat La ICL Manresa (4-19). He scored only 4 points and blocked 2 shots in 15 minutes. Baskonia lost 82-87 on the road to the league outsider (#17) La ICL Manresa. It was Baskonia's first loss after four consecutive victories. Diop has been at the team for four years. This season Diop averages: 4.0ppg and 2.7rpg in 19 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #3. Michel Diouf (208-C-89, currently plays in Denmark) led Bakken to a victory against the closely-ranked Naestved (13-15) 89-82 in the Danish Ligaen in Monday night's game. He scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Bakken Bears (24-4) is placed first in the Ligaen. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Diouf averaged so far 11.0ppg, 6.1rpg, 2.6apg, 1.1bpg and 1.3spg.

   #4. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Souffelweyersheim (19-10) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Mendy's good performance Souffelweyersheim was crushed 80-52 in Quimper by the second-ranked UJAP. He was the second best scorer with 10 points. Mendy also added 6 rebounds. Mendy has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.5apg.

   #5. Experienced Mamadou Dia (201-C/F-78, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Provence Basket (16-7) in their game against Nantes (10-11) in the French ProB (second division). Dia scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 17 minutes. Provence Basket was badly defeated 81-63 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked (#7) Nantes. Dia plays 11th season for the team. He has averaged so far 9.5ppg and 2.2rpg in 23 games. Dia has both Senegalese and French nationalities.

   #6. Sidy Djitte (208-C-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Clemson in their game against the Oakland University in the NCAA National Tournament Round 1. He recorded 7 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. His team was defeated 74-69. Djitte has averaged so far 6.5ppg and 7.7rpg.

   #7. Papa Beye (202-F/C-89, currently plays in France) contributed to an ALM Evreux's victory against the 14th-ranked Saint Chamond 90-81 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Beye recorded 10 points. He has averaged so far 6.0ppg and 4.1rpg.

   #8. Tacko Fall (229-C-95, currently studies in the States) contributed to Cent.Florida's victory against the University of Colorado 79-74 in the NCAA National Tournament Round 1 on Wednesday night. Fall recorded 10 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in 30 minutes. He averaged so far 11.1ppg, 9.5rpg and 2.5bpg in 33 games.

   #9. Mouhamed Barro (205-F-95, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Oviedo CB (18-10) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance Oviedo CB was defeated 87-78 in San Sebastian by the leading Gipuzkoa. Barro recorded 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. He has averaged so far 4.2ppg and 3.3rpg.

   #10. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Palencia Baloncesto's victory against the closely-ranked Leyma Basquet 79-75 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Friday night. Samb scored 6 points, had 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks. He averaged so far 10.4ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.2bpg. Samb also holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite his Senegalese nationality, Samb previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and probably cannot be called to the Senegalese team.

Polski Cukier Torun (PLK) inked 30-year old Senegalese international center Cheikh Mbodj (208-107kg-87, college: Cincinnati, agency: Octagon Europe). He started the season at BK Ventspils in Latvian LBL league. In 9 games he recorded 8.1ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.1bpg this season. Mbodj also played 5 games in Basketball Champions League where he averaged 5.6ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.0bpg. The last season he played at Energa Czarni (TBL). In 38 games he had 11.5ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.4bpg.
