Hassino Ndoye selected the top Senegalese players playing abroad in last week's games - Feb 25, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Senegalese players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Hassino Ndoye

   #1. This week's number one is former U18 international Hassino Ndoye (92, currently plays in Qatar). He led Al Gharafa to a victory over the closely-ranked Al Rayyan (11-6) crushing them 102-82 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 in Tuesday night's game. Ndoye was MVP of the game. He recorded 24 points and had 3 steals in 33 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Al Gharafa Doha (16-1) is placed second in the D1. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Ndoye averages: 9.2ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 46.3%, 3FGP: 29.2% and FT: 75.0% in 17 games he played so far. He played for the Senegalese U18 national team nine years ago.

Mamadou Diouf

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware, currently plays in Japan). Diouf could not help Toshiba Thunders (33-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance the first-placed Toshiba Thunders (33-6) was edged 84-81 on the road by the lower-ranked Osaka Evessa (#3) in the Central group. Diouf was the second best scorer with 14 points. He also added 8 rebounds. It's Diouf's fifth season with the team. Diouf's overall stats this year are: 6.6ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 53.2% and FT: 76.3%. He played for the Senegalese national team in 2007.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Lithuania). Hannah was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Lietuvos rytas in their game against Lietkabelis (17-6) in the Lithuanian LKL, despite his good performance on Saturday night. He scored 10 points in 20 minutes. But Lietuvos rytas lost 77-86 in Panevezys to the second-ranked Lietkabelis. It's Hannah's first season with the team. This year Hannah's overall stats are: 6.6ppg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 59.1%(13-22), 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 88.9% in seven games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and American. Hannah is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Youssou Ndoye

   #4. Center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France) contributed to a JL Bourg's victory against the seventh-ranked Nantes (9-10) 80-72 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds. Ndoye also added and 3 steals; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. JL Bourg Basket (14-5) is placed first in the ProB. Ndoye has relatively good stats this season: 13.2ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3bpg. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #5. Former international forward Papa Dia (208-87, college: SMU, currently plays in Finland) was the main contributor in a 1-point BC Nokia's victory against the closely-ranked Salon Vilpas (20-8) 98-97 in the Finnish Korisliiga last Wednesday. Dia was the best player in that game. He had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 11 rebounds. Dia also added 3 assists in 32 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BC Nokia (9-5) is placed fourth in the Korisliiga. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Dia has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.2apg in 24 games. Dia used to play for the Senegalese national team six years ago.

Antoine Mendy

   #6. Forward Antoine Mendy (198-83, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Entente Orleans 45 (6-14) in their game against Olympique Antibes (7-13) in the French ProA. Despite his very good performance on Saturday night He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Mendy also added 4 rebounds. Mendy's total stats this season are: 4.8ppg and 2.4rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

Mouhammad Faye

   #7. Former international forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece) helped Promitheas win their game against the closely-ranked Lavrio (7-12) 77-74 in the Greek A1 last Saturday. He recorded 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. ASP Promitheas Patras (8-11) is placed eighth in the A1. This season Faye has relatively solid stats: 12.2ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.2apg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

   #8. Center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Yokohama BC (14-26) in their game against Sanen Neophoenix (24-16) in the Japanese B League, despite his very good performance on Wednesday night. Faye had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 12 rebounds in 40 minutes. But Yokohama BC (#5) lost 73-85 at home to the second-ranked Sanen Neophoenix in the Central group. It was Yokohama BC's fifth consecutive loss in a row. This year Faye's total stats are: 7.3ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.1apg in 39 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2015.

   #9. International guard Louis Adams (193-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Wyoming (6-8) in their game against the Boise State University (6-6) in the NCAA. Despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game Adams scored 18 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. There are only three games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Adams has averaged so far 7.7ppg and 2.5rpg. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #10. Point guard Xane d'Almeida (181-83, currently plays in France) helped Lourdes-Tarbes win their game against the 13th-ranked Vendee Challans (11-14) 87-80 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. He was the top player that evening. d'Almeida recorded 31 points (!!!), 4 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). L'union Lourdes-Tarbes Pyrenees Basket (14-11) is placed seventh in the NM1. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. d'Almeida is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Lourdes-Tarbes' roster. He has reliable stats this season: 14.3ppg, 4.5rpg, 7.2apg and 1.8spg. d'Almeida is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Senegalese senior national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Jules Aw (202-86, currently plays in Switzerland) helped Lugano Tigers win their game against the closely-ranked Monthey 74-70 in the Swiss LNA on Saturday night. He scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 33 minutes. Aw averaged so far 10.6ppg, 9.7rpg and 1.7apg in seven games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

   #12. International center Abdoulaye Ndoye (207-95, currently plays in Spain) helped Gipuzkoa win their game against the 13th-ranked Caceres Basket 81-70 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Friday night's game. Ndoye scored 8 points. He has averaged so far 5.4ppg and 4.0rpg. Ndoye is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #13. International center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA) managed to help Minnesota Timberwolves to win against the Dallas Mavericks 97-84 in the NBA on Friday night. He recorded only 4 points. Dieng averaged so far 10.1ppg, 7.8rpg and 1.8apg. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #14. Former U18 international center Papa Mbaye (209-90, currently plays in Spain) helped Lleida Basquet win their game against the closely-ranked Castello crushing them 92-69 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Friday night's game. Mbaye was the top player that evening. He recorded 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. Mbaye has averaged so far 6.5ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.2bpg in 25 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team back in 2008.

   #15. Former international center Aziz N'Diaye (213-88, college: Washington, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Dragonflies in their game against Gunma in the Japanese B League D2. He scored 6 points in 16 minutes. His team lost 82-86. N'Diaye has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.3bpg in 22 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Tacko Fall (229-C-95, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Cent.Florida to a 2-point victory against the Temple University (8-2) 71-69 in the NCAA in Wednesday night's game. Fall had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 5 blocks in 30 minutes. The University of Central Florida has 7-7 conference record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Fall has relatively solid stats: 11.9ppg, 9.7rpg and 2.5bpg in 28 games he played so far.

   #2. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) could not help Palencia Baloncesto (17-8) in their last game. Despite Samb's very good performance the league leader Palencia Baloncesto was edged 96-94 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#12) Castello. He was the top scorer with 19 points. Samb also added 5 rebounds and made 5 blocks in 28 minutes. Samb has reliable stats this year: 10.7ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.2bpg in 16 games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite Samb's Senegalese passport, he previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #3. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) was not able to help Souffelweyersheim (17-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Mendy's good performance Souffelweyersheim was defeated 71-65 on the opponent's court by the much lower-ranked Lorient (#16). He recorded 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Mendy has averaged so far 9.3ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.5apg.

   #4. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Baskonia (12-11) in their game against Anadolu Efes (12-11) in the Euroleague. He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Diop scored only 2 points in 5 minutes on the court. Baskonia (#8) lost 85-96 in Istanbul to the higher-ranked (#7) Anadolu Efes in the group A of Euroleague. It was Baskonia's third consecutive loss in a row. Diop has been at the team for four years. He has averaged so far 3.1ppg and 2.5rpg in 23 games. Diop is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #5. Experienced Mamadou Dia (201-C/F-78, currently plays in France) couldn't help Provence Basket (14-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance Provence Basket was crushed 90-69 in Boulogne-sur-Mer by the one of league's weakest teams (#17) SO Maritime Boulogne. Dia recorded 11 points in a mere 18 minutes. Dia has been at the team for eleven years. He has averaged so far 9.9ppg and 2.1rpg in 19 games. Dia has both Senegalese and French nationalities.

   #6. Serigne Barro (208-C-95, currently plays in Spain) led Azuqueca to a victory over the 16th-ranked Viten Getafe Fuenlabrada 69-56 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. Barro was the top player that evening. He recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 11 rebounds. Barro has averaged so far 5.3ppg and 3.4rpg.

   #7. Oumar Seck (208-C-88, currently plays in Qatar) couldn't help Al Sadd in their game against Al Shamal in the Qatari D1, despite his very good performance on Tuesday night. He had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 17 rebounds. Seck also added 4 assists in 40 minutes. But his team lost 59-68. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Seck averages: 17.0ppg, 16.7rpg, 3.9apg, 1.3bpg and 2.0spg in seven games.

   #8. Pape Sow (205-F/C-93, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the 12th-ranked Lanzarote crushing them 93-70 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Sunday night's game. He scored 17 points. Sow averaged so far 12.0ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.6apg.

   #9. Nick Diatta (203-F, college: Missouri Valley, currently plays in Qatar) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Qatar Sports Club crushing them 110-82 in the Qatari D1 on Sunday night. Diatta recorded 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. He has averaged so far 3.9ppg and 4.5rpg.

   #10. Vieux Kande (206-C-94, currently plays in NCAA2) contributed to an Lynn University's surprising victory against the Florida Southern College crushing them 93-70 in the NCAA2 in Saturday night's game. Kande had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds in 30 minutes. He has averaged so far 8.6ppg and 10.4rpg in 19 games.

Sagesse - Al Hekmeh Beirut (Pepsi LBL) inked 32-year old Senegalese forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU). He started the season at Promitheas in Greek A1 league. In 23 games he averaged 11.5ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.1apg this season. The last season Faye played at Openjobmetis VA in Italian Serie A where in 21 games he had 9.3ppg, 7.9rpg and 1.0apg. He also played 13 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he recorded 9.5ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.2apg. In 2010 Faye was drafted by Rio Grande Valley Vipers...   [read more]
