Here is the weekly review of the top performing Senegalese players, who play currently abroad.


Clevin Hannah

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in EuroCup). He could not help Lietuvos rytas (2-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Hannah's good performance Lietuvos rytas was defeated 84-77 on the road by the leading Hapoel Jerusalem. He was the top scorer with 14 points. Hannah also added 4 boards, passed 5 assists and added 4 steals. His team will play only one more game in the Eurocup Second Stage. And that game will be critical. This season Hannah averages: 7.0ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.6apg, 2FGP: 59.1%(13-22), 3FGP: 16.7%. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and American. Hannah is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Ousmane Barro

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former U18 international power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in Romania). He was the major contributor in an UBT Cluj Napoca's victory against the closely-ranked Steaua CSM (12-5) 85-68 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Sunday night. Barro scored 19 points, had 8 boards, handed out 3 passes and blocked 2 shots in 32 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca (15-2) is placed first in the Liga Nationala. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. It's Barro's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 66.7%(82-123) and FT: 69.1% in 18 games he played so far. Barro played for the Senegalese U18 national team in 2002.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA). He led Minnesota Timberwolves to an easy victory against the Brooklyn Nets (9-41) crushing them 129-109 in the NBA in Saturday night's game. Dieng recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 4 assists. The Minnesota Timberwolves have 19-31 record this season. Dieng is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Timberwolves' roster. This season Dieng has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg, 7.7rpg, 2.0apg, 1.2bpg, 2FGP: 53.3%, 3FGP: 31.8% and FT: 77.3%. He is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Moussa Diagne

   #4. Center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to help FC Barcelona in their game against Baskonia (12-9) in the Euroleague. He scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 8 minutes. The 12th-placed FC Barcelona (8-13) lost 79-93 at home to the higher-ranked (#7) Baskonia in the group A of Euroleague. It was FC Barcelona's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Diagne's overall stats are: 4.0ppg and 3.0rpg in two games. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Worth to mention Diagne played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Diagne is also Senegalese national team player.

International center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France) led JL Bourg to a 2-point victory against the eighth-ranked ADA Blois (8-9) 81-79 in the French ProB (second division) in Saturday night's game. He scored 19 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 6 blocks in 28 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Ndoye's second season in pro basketball. JL Bourg Basket (13-4) is placed first in the ProB. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. Ndoye has reliable stats this year: 13.2ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3bpg in 17 games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #6. Forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece) led Promitheas to a victory against the league outsider Doxa Lefkadas (3-12) 79-73 in the Greek A1 last Saturday. Faye scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. ASP Promitheas Patras (6-10) is placed ninth in the A1. Faye's stats this season are: 12.6ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.2apg. He is a former international player as he played for the Senegalese senior team two years ago.

Former international center Aziz N'Diaye (213-88, college: Washington, currently plays in Japan) contributed to Dragonflies' victory against the leader Toyotsu FE (24-9) 88-75 in the Japanese B League D2 on Sunday night. N'Diaye recorded 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 20 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group West. Hiroshima Dragonflies (27-6) are placed first. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. This year N'Diaye's total stats are: 8.9ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.2bpg in 16 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.

   #8. Power forward Pape Badji (208-92, currently plays in Belgium) was not able to secure a victory for Kangoeroes (8-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Badji's very good performance Kangoeroes was badly defeated 88-70 on their home court in Willebroek by the higher-ranked Spirou Charleroi (#4). He was the top scorer with 15 points. Badji also added 8 rebounds. Badji averaged so far 11.5ppg and 5.5rpg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2015.

Former international forward Papa Dia (208-87, college: SMU, currently plays in Finland) led BC Nokia to a 2-point victory over the closely-ranked Kouvot (10-9) 78-76 in the Finnish Korisliiga last Wednesday. Dia was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 12 rebounds in 26 minutes. BC Nokia (7-5) is placed fourth in the Korisliiga. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Dia has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 7.7rpg and 1.1apg in 22 games. Dia used to play for the Senegalese national team six years ago.

Center Abdoulaye Ndoye (207-95, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Gipuzkoa's victory against the 15th-ranked Cocinas.com (6-15) 75-70 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Friday night. He recorded 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. RETAbet Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian (16-6) is placed first in the LEB Gold. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Ndoye has averaged so far 5.3ppg and 4.2rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #11. International forward Sitapha Savane (202-78, college: Navy, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Movil Estudiantes' victory against the 15th-ranked Blusens Monbus 81-73 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. Savane recorded 10 points in only 14 minutes. Savane has averaged so far 5.7ppg and 3.5rpg in 17 games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #12. International forward Maurice Ndour (206-92, college: Ohio, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the New York Knicks in their game against the Washington Wizards in the NBA. Ndour recorded 7 points in only 8 minutes. His team were badly defeated by 16 points 117-101 in the NBA. Ndour has averaged so far 2.6ppg and 1.6rpg in 18 games. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #13. Former U18 international forward Hassino Ndoye (92, currently plays in Qatar) managed to help Al Gharafa Doha to win against the eighth-ranked Al Ahli crushing them 94-61 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 on Sunday night. Ndoye recorded only 4 points. Ndoye has averaged so far 8.2ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.0apg. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team nine years ago.

   #14. Former U18 international power forward Cheikh Sane (207-92, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Marshall, currently plays in Denmark) couldn't help Naestved (10-9) in their last game. Despite Sane's good performance Naestved lost 77-82 on the opponent's court to the second-ranked Horsholm. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Sane also added 7 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 22 minutes. Sane's stats this year are: 11.9ppg, 9.7rpg, 1.7apg and 1.2bpg in 18 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team back in 2008.

   #15. Former international power forward Jules Aw (202-86, currently plays in Switzerland) helped Lugano Tigers win their game against the closely-ranked Lausanne 70-62 in the Swiss LNA last Saturday. Aw recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 13 rebounds. Aw has averaged so far 8.8ppg, 9.8rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team ten years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Spain) could not help Baskonia (12-6) in their last game. Despite his good performance Baskonia lost 84-92 at home to the higher-ranked (#3) FC Barcelona. Diop recorded 14 points in a mere 19 minutes. It was Baskonia's first loss after four consecutive victories. It's Diop's fourth season with the team. This year he averages: 4.2ppg and 2.8rpg in 15 games he played so far. Diop has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #2. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Italy) led Enel Brindisi to a 1-point victory against the closely-ranked The Flexx PT (8-9) 86-85 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night. He scored 14 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, passed 4 assists and added 3 blocks. Enel Basket Brindisi (8-9) is placed 12th in the Serie A. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. M'Baye has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.8ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.6apg and 1.4bpg. M'Baye is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and French. Despite his Senegalese nationality, M'Baye previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #3. Papa Beye (202-F/C-89, currently plays in France) led ALM Evreux to a victory against the 16th-ranked SPO Rouen (6-11) 87-74 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Beye scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. ALM Evreux Basket (8-9) is placed 12th in the ProB. Beye has averaged so far 6.9ppg and 4.6rpg.

   #4. Iba Camara (206-F-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to help the New Hampshire in their game against the University of Maryland -Baltimore County in the NCAA, despite his very good performance on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 14 rebounds in 43 minutes. But the New Hampshire was edged 105-103 on their home court in Durham by the University of Maryland - County. Camara has averaged so far 9.2ppg and 8.3rpg in 23 games.

   #5. Oumar Seck (208-C-88, currently plays in Qatar) was the major contributor in an Al Sadd's victory against the closely-ranked Qatar Sports Club (5-8) 91-72 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 in Wednesday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 18 rebounds. Seck also added 7 assists. Al Sadd Sports Club Doha (4-9) is placed seventh in the D1. It was his team's first victory after five consecutive loses. This season Seck has very high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 18.0rpg, 4.0apg, 2.0bpg and 2.0spg.

   #6. Alioune Badara Ndoye (199-F-86, currently plays in Qatar) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Al Shamal crushing them 65-35 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 on Saturday night. Ndoye scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 20 minutes. Ndoye has averaged so far 7.5ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.9apg in 13 games. He has both Senegalese and Qatari nationalities. Despite Ndoye's Senegalese passport, he previously played for the Qatari military national team and probably cannot be called to the Senegalese team.

   #7. Experienced Mamadou Dia (201-C/F-78, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Provence Basket in their game against Saint-Quentin in the French ProB (second division). Dia scored 8 points in only 13 minutes. His team lost 62-67. Dia has averaged so far 9.8ppg and 2.1rpg in 17 games. He also holds two passports: Senegalese and French.

   #8. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) contributed to Souffelweyersheim's victory against the tenth-ranked UB Chartres 74-69 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. Mendy scored 7 points. Mendy has averaged so far 9.9ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.6apg.

   #9. Nick Diatta (203-F, college: Missouri Valley, currently plays in Qatar) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Al Shamal crushing them 107-74 in the Qatari D1 on Tuesday night. He recorded 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Diatta has averaged so far 3.3ppg and 4.7rpg.

   #10. Mouhamadou Diop (212-C-87, currently plays in Spain) led Santfeliuenc to a victory over the 14th-ranked Castellbisbal 78-72 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Diop had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 15 rebounds. He also added 4 blocks in 30 minutes. Diop averaged so far 14.8ppg, 8.9rpg and 1.5spg in 13 games.

Sagesse - Al Hekmeh Beirut (Pepsi LBL) inked 32-year old Senegalese forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU). He started the season at Promitheas in Greek A1 league. In 23 games he averaged 11.5ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.1apg this season. The last season Faye played at Openjobmetis VA in Italian Serie A where in 21 games he had 9.3ppg, 7.9rpg and 1.0apg. He also played 13 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he recorded 9.5ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.2apg. In 2010 Faye was drafted by Rio Grande Valley Vipers...   [read more]
