Here is the weekly review of the top performing Senegalese players, who play currently abroad.


Gorgui Dieng

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the Minnesota Timberwolves (15-28) in their last game. Despite Dieng's very good performance the Minnesota Timberwolves (15-28) lost 87-98 on the road to the Dallas Mavericks. He was the top scorer with 21 points. Dieng also added 8 rebounds in 31 minutes on the court. It's Dieng's fourth season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 10.9ppg, 7.6rpg, 2.0apg, 1.2bpg, 2FGP: 54.0%, 3FGP: 31.6% and FT: 76.7% in 43 games he played so far. Dieng is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, college: Wichita St., currently plays in EuroCup). Hannah contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (1-2) crushing them 97-63 in the Eurocup on Tuesday night. He scored 8 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 21 minutes. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (1-2) is placed 11th in the Eurocup. They ended the series of four consecutive loses. There are only three games left until the end of the Eurocup Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. This year Hannah averages: 7.0ppg, 1.3rpg, 3.3apg, 2FGP: 61.5% in three games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and American. Hannah is in the roster of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece). He was not able to help Promitheas (4-10) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Faye's very good performance Promitheas was edged 72-69 at home by the second-ranked Panathinaikos. He was the top scorer with 17 points. It's Faye's first season with the team. This year Faye has relatively solid stats: 12.8ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 61.5%(32-52), 3FGP: 31.5% and FT: 81.3%. He played for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

   #4. An experienced power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in Romania) led UBT Cluj Napoca to a victory against the closely-ranked CSU Sibiu (9-6) 91-80 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Saturday night's game. He recorded 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. U-Banca Transilvania Cluj Napoca (12-2) is placed first in the Liga Nationala. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Barro has reliable stats this year: 12.1ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.5apg in 15 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team back in 2002.

International center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in a 2-point JL Bourg's victory against one of league's weakest teams SO Maritime Boulogne (4-11) 67-65 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Ndoye scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. JL Bourg Basket (11-4) is placed second in the ProB. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Ndoye's stats this season are: 12.9ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1bpg. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

Center Abdoulaye Ndoye (207-95, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Gipuzkoa's victory against the eighth-ranked Ourense (12-9) 85-79 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Friday night's game. He scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. RETAbet Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian (15-6) is placed second in the LEB Gold. Ndoye's overall stats this season are: 5.0ppg and 4.2rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

Despite his very good performance BC Nokia lost 83-93 on their home court in Nokia to the lower-ranked (#5) Kauhajoen Karhu. Dia was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 26 minutes. Dia has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 7.2rpg and 1.1apg in 19 games. Dia used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2011.

International center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Montakit Fuenlabrada in a victory against the 15th-ranked Blusens Monbus (4-11) 91-72 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. Diagne scored 5 points in 15 minutes. Montakit Fuenlabrada (7-9) is placed ninth in the Liga Endesa. This year Diagne's overall stats are: 7.1ppg and 6.8rpg in 16 games. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #10. Small forward Maleye N'Doye (202-80, college: Furman, currently plays in France) couldn't help Paris-Levallois (9-8) in their game against Hyeres-Toulon (8-9) in the French ProA. He scored 6 points in only 11 minutes. Paris-Levallois lost 65-70 on the opponent's court to the lower-ranked (#10) Hyeres-Toulon. N'Doye plays fifth season for the team. This year N'Doye's total stats are: 4.2ppg and 2.3rpg in 17 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #11. International forward Antoine Mendy (198-83, currently plays in France) contributed to a Entente Orleans 45's victory against one of league's weakest teams JDA Dijon 84-76 in the French ProA in Friday night's game. He recorded 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 14 minutes. Mendy has averaged so far 4.2ppg and 2.0rpg in 10 games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #12. International guard Louis Adams (193-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Wyoming win their game against the San Jose State University 80-70 in the NCAA on Wednesday night. He recorded 14 points. Adams has averaged so far 6.9ppg and 2.5rpg. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #13. Former U18 international power forward Cheikh Sane (207-92, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Marshall, currently plays in Denmark) helped Naestved win their game against the league outsider Stevnsgade crushing them 80-60 in the Danish Ligaen in Thursday night's game. Sane recorded 6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 21 minutes. His stats this year are: 11.6ppg, 9.6rpg and 1.8apg in 16 games. Sane used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team nine years ago.

   #14. International forward Maurice Ndour (206-92, college: Ohio, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the New York Knicks in their game against the Toronto Raptors in the NBA. He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Ndour scored only 2 points. His team were defeated 116-101 in the NBA. He has averaged so far 2.3ppg and 1.5rpg. Ndour plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #15. Former U18 international center Papa Mbaye (209-90, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Lleida Basquet in their game against Palencia Baloncesto in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. His team was edged 80-78. Mbaye has averaged so far 6.3ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.4bpg. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team nine years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz to win against the 11th-ranked RETAbet BB (6-9) crushing them 84-63 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Sunday. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (11-5) is placed fifth in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Diop has been at the team for four years. This season Diop averages: 3.2ppg and 2.9rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #2. Elson Mendy (200-F-85, currently plays in France) could not help Souffelweyersheim (14-5) in their last game. Despite Mendy's very good performance Souffelweyersheim was edged 74-72 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#9) Lourdes-Tarbes. He was the top scorer with 17 points. Mendy also added 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 34 minutes. Mendy has reliable stats this year: 10.4ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.6apg in 18 games he played so far.

   #3. Papa Beye (202-F/C-89, currently plays in France) was not able to help ALM Evreux (6-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance ALM Evreux was defeated 91-77 in Vichy by the much higher-ranked JA Vichy (#8). Beye scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Beye's overall stats this season are: 6.9ppg and 4.4rpg.

   #4. Mamadou Niang (209-C-94, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) was not able to secure a victory for CB Canarias (10-3) in their game against Scandone AV (9-4) in the Basketball Champions League. Niang cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 2 points in 5 minutes on the court. The first-placed CB Canarias (10-3) lost 66-78 in Avellino to the second-ranked Scandone AV in the group D of Basketball Champions League. It was CB Canarias' first loss after seven consecutive victories. Niang's team will play only one more game in the Basketball Champions League Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Niang's overall stats are: 3.9ppg, 2.4rpg and 1.2bpg in 13 games.

   #5. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) led Palencia Baloncesto to a 2-point victory over the tenth-ranked Lleida Basquet (11-9) 80-78 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. Samb was MVP of the game. He scored 25 points in 31 minutes. Quesos Cerrato de Palencia (15-6) is placed third in the LEB Gold. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Samb's stats this year are: 10.2ppg and 5.7rpg in 12 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite Samb's Senegalese nationality, he previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #6. Masine Fall (208-C-93, currently plays in Spain) led Melilla Baloncesto to a victory over the closely-ranked Araberri 80-72 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. He was MVP of the game. Fall scored 17 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 5 blocks (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Fall averaged so far 11.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.5bpg.

   #7. Iba Camara (206-F-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an New Hampshire's victory against the University of Maine 74-63 in the NCAA in Thursday night's game. Camara recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. Camara's total stats this season are: 8.6ppg and 7.8rpg.

   #8. Mame Souleye (206-C-87, currently plays in Qatar) was the main contributor in an Al Arabi's victory against the eighth-ranked Al Sadd crushing them 80-51 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 on Wednesday night. Souleye was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 11 rebounds. Souleye also added 3 assists. He averaged so far 12.2ppg, 6.5rpg and 2.9apg. Souleye has both Senegalese and Qatari nationalities.

   #9. Adama Ba (209-F/C-98, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an easy victory against the 15th-ranked Monteroni crushing them 117-76 in the Italian Serie B (third division) last Sunday. Ba recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. Ba has averaged so far 3.4ppg and 3.7rpg. He also holds two passports: Senegalese and Italian.

   #10. Experienced Mamadou Dia (201-C/F-78, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked Poitiers 81-63 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. Dia scored 8 points in 20 minutes. He has averaged so far 9.9ppg and 2.3rpg in 15 games. Dia has Senegalese and French nationalities.

Papa Mbaye extends contract with Lleida - 12 days ago
Lleida secured the services of Papa Mbaye for the next season. The Senegalese centre has agreed on terms of contract extension. Papa Mbaye joined Lleida at the start of the season. He notched 6.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game in LEB Gold. Previously Papa Mbaye played for FC Barcelona II and Cornella. He was named All-Spanish LEB Silver Defensive Player of the Year back in 2012.   [read more]
