Patriots Eye Double Victory in Hoops League - May 3, 2016

Patriots Basketball Club will be looking for a crucial double victory this weekend when they play U18 Boys Team Friday night and University of Rwanda College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR-CASS) on Sunday. In the second season in the national league, Patriots coach Henry Mwinuke is optimistic on his team's chances of winning both games, which would take their win ratio to 13:2 this season. Fresh from humiliating former champions APR 78-37 last Friday, the Tanzania-born trainer says, "We are playing two important games this weekend, they are both must wins if we truly want to win the league, and we don't want to make any mistake at this point." Mwinuke will be hoping for his star players like; Ali Kubwimana Kazingufu, point guard Aristide Mugabe (183-PG-88) and youngster Walter Nkurunziza, turn up for both games in good form. Kagugu-based Patriots, who have played three games less than all their closest title challengers, are in fourth place in the league table standings with 24 points, four behind leaders Espoir and second-placed IPRC-Kigali. IPRC-South are third with 27 points.

REG crowned Heroes basketball tournament champions - 12 days ago
RWANDA Energy Group (men) and IPRC-South (women) were on crowned champions of the 2018 National Heroes Basketball Tournament that concluded on Sunday evening at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. REG claimed the title after overcoming archrivals Patriots in a narrow 54-51 win while IPRC-South stunned hopefuls APR in another hard fought 79-77 win to clinch the women's title. Niyonsaba's double-double leads IPRC-South to victory - 27 days ago
Rwanda international Bienvenue Niyonsaba(PF) scored a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds to help IPRC-South overcome IPRC-Kigali in a narrow 69-68 overtime win in the national basketball league on Saturday in Huye. With victory, IPRC-South jumped from fifth to third position in the league table standings with 11 points from seven games, (four wins and 3 losses). Rwanda men's national basketball will face hosts Mali in the Group B opening game at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers First Round to be staged in Bamako from February 23-25.
