..... As Stanleopards defeat Lafia warriors 90 - 78 in Akwanga

Stanleopards basketball club of Akwanga, Nasarawa State New Year Day defeated Lafia Warriors at the basketball court of the Central Primary School, Akwanga by 90-78 points as part of Nasarawa State New Year celebration.

The home waited until the start of the second quarter to the game beyond the reach of the state team - The Lafia Warriors basketball team.

The annual competition which was in its 15th edition saw the Stanleopards team winning the last three quarters after going down to the Lafia side in the first quarter (10-18, 17-13, 30-25, 30-22).

According to the initiator of the tournament, Hon. Stanley Buba, 'we are happy with the turn-out here today and we hope to have a team from Nasarawa State compete in the national premier league very soon.

Buba who is the chairman of the state basketball association told the gathering that aside coming together to celebrate the New Year festivity the tournament is also keep the memory of late Coach Emmanuel Chagu alive.
