Ondo organise 3-Day tourney for higher institutions, club - Mar 24, 2017

The Ondo State Basketball Association in conjunction with J T & A Global has put together a 3-Day tournament for various higher institutions of learning and the state men team - Ondo Raiders basketball club and it's feeders team as a way of promoting the slamming and dunking game in the Sunshine State.

The association which was inaugurated November 2016 is doing everything possible to take basketball to the next levels.

Five higher institutions of learning and the two clubsides are participating in the tournament while the state women team - Sunshine Angels basketball club will battle Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba in a two-leg affairs.

Among the higher institutions taking part in the tournament according to Coach Shola Aluko who is coordinating the tournament are Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Adeyemi College of Education and Wesley University, Ondo Town.

The tournament hope to be sustained as a way of promoting healthy rivalry and increase the popularity of basketball in Ondo State in particular and Nigeria in general.

The tournament will run from Friday (24/03/17) Sunday as the association plans to make the tournament a quarterly event and introduce a league for the state public and private secondary which is aimed at introducing competitive basketball to kids at an early stage.

Kano Pillars and Gombe Bulls have qualified for the 2017 FIBA Africa Club Championship. They will represent the zone in Tunisia.
