We bring you last week's top performances from Nigerians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Ekpe Udoh (208-87, college: Baylor, currently plays in Euroleague). He led his Turkish team Fenerbahce to a victory against the 12th-ranked Brose Baskets (9-17) 83-78 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Udoh scored 12 points, grabbed 5 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 4 shots in 38 minutes on the court. Fenerbahce Istanbul (17-9) is placed fourth in the Euroleague. There are only four games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Udoh has relatively good stats this year: 12.3ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.9apg, 2.4bpg, 2FGP: 59.9%(109-182) and FT: 63.9% in 22 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

Jeleel Akindele

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Mexico). Akindele led Fuerza Regia to a victory over the closely-ranked Toros (22-14) 73-58 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Saturday. He was MVP of the game. Akindele recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 5 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (32-4) is placed first in the LNBP. It's Akindele's first season with the team. This year Akindele has relatively solid stats: 14.6ppg, 8.4rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 60.7%(205-338) and FT: 70.5%. He played for the Nigerian national team in 2009.

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Alade Aminu (210-87, agency: Three Eye Sports, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Lebanon). Aminu was the major contributor in a Al Riyadi's victory against the closely-ranked Al Moutahed (9-7) 86-77 in the Lebanese Pepsi LBL on Friday night. He recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and made 2 blocks in 34 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut (6-0) is placed first in the Pepsi LBL. So far his team won all six games in the Regular Season. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Aminu has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.9ppg, 9.7rpg, 2.3apg, 1.4bpg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 60.2%(109-181), 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 63.8% in 16 games. Aminu is also a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #4. Power forward Dinma Odiakosa (203-85, agency: Inception Sports, college: Illinois St., currently plays in France) could not help one of league's weakest teams STB Le Havre (11-7) in their last game. Despite Odiakosa's very good performance STB Le Havre lost 70-77 on the road to the second-ranked Provence Basket. He had a double-double by scoring 29 points and getting 11 rebounds in 34 minutes. It was STB Le Havre's third consecutive loss in a row. Odiakosa has reliable stats this year: 14.3ppg and 9.7rpg in 22 games. He used to play for the Nigerian U22 national team back in 2004.

   #5. Former international power forward Gani Lawal (205-88, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help Banco di Srd (12-10) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Lawal's good performance Banco di Srd was defeated 82-75 at home by the leading Armani Milano. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Lawal also added 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Lawal's stats this season are: 10.7ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.5bpg. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Lawal used to play for the Nigerian national team four years ago.

   #6. Power forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Minnesota, currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Unics Kazan (12-8) crushing them 109-84 in the VTB United League last Sunday. He scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Zenit Saint Petersburg (16-3) is placed second in the VTB United League. It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Mbakwe's overall stats this season are: 5.5ppg and 3.9rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Despite Mbakwe played previously for the USA university national team, he is also an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #7. Former international center Solomon Alabi (216-88, college: Florida St., currently plays in Japan) contributed to a 3-point Toyotsu FE's victory against the third-ranked Yamagata (23-21) 74-71 in the Japanese B League D2 on Sunday night. Alabi recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 19 rebounds. He also added 4 assists and 3 blocks. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Central. Toyotsu Fighting Eagles Nagoya (33-11) is placed first. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This season Alabi has very high stats. He averages: 17.6ppg, 13.1rpg, 1.2apg and 1.4bpg. Alabi used to play for the Nigerian national team four years ago.

Forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a Portland Trail Blazers' victory against the Phoenix Suns (22-46) 110-101 in the NBA on Sunday night. Aminu scored 9 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 30 minutes. The Portland Trail Blazers have 30-36 record this season. Aminu's stats this year are: 8.3ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.8apg in 46 games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Despite Aminu played previously for the USA U19 national team, he is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

International power forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-84, college: SMU, currently plays in Turkey) helped Balikesir win their game against the eighth-ranked Gaziantep (10-11) 78-71 in the Turkish BSL last Saturday. Ofoegbu had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds in 27 minutes. Best Balikesir Basketbol Kulubu (4-17) is placed second from the bottom (#15) in the BSL. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Ofoegbu averaged so far 12.6ppg and 4.2rpg in 21 games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Ofoegbu is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

   #10. Guard Michael Efevberha (193-84, college: CS Northridge, currently plays in Lebanon) was not able to secure a victory for Sagesse (4-11) in their last game. Despite his good performance Sagesse lost 71-85 on their home court in Beirut to the higher-ranked (#5) Louaize. Efevberha had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 4 assists and 2 blocks in 37 minutes. It was Sagesse's fifth consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Efevberha has very impressive stats this year: 21.7ppg, 8.3rpg, 4.5apg and 1.7spg in six games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Efevberha is a former international player as eight years ago he still played for the Nigerian senior national team.

   #11. International point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Virtus Bologna in their game against Verona in the Italian Serie A2 (second division). Despite his very good performance last Sunday He scored 17 points. This season Umeh has very high stats. He averages: 17.8ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.1apg. Umeh holds both American and Nigerian passports. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #12. Former international forward Melvin Ejim (200-91, college: Iowa St., currently plays in Italy) managed to help Umana Reyer Venezia in a victory against the 11th-ranked The Flexx PT 78-71 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night. Ejim recorded only 4 points in 21 minutes. Ejim averaged so far 10.6ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.7apg and 1.1spg in 22 games. He used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2012.

   #13. International power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, currently plays in VTB United League) helped his Russian team Enisey win their game against the closely-ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod 93-80 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. Braimoh scored 14 points, had 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Braimoh averaged so far 12.2ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.8apg and 1.2spg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Braimoh is also Nigerian national team player.

   #14. Former international forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan) helped Gunma win their game against the second-ranked Nishinomiya Storks 92-81 in the Japanese B League D2 on Sunday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Kuso also added 3 assists. Kuso averaged so far 13.5ppg, 8.8rpg, 1.2apg and 1.7bpg. He used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2007.

   #15. International small forward Derrick Obasohan (198-81, also represented by BeoBasket, college: Texas Arlington, currently plays in France) faced previously mentioned Dinma Odiakosa in the French ProB last game. Obasohan helped Provence Basket win their game against the closely-ranked STB Le Havre 77-70. He recorded 16 points in 23 minutes. Obasohan has very impressive stats this year: 15.1ppg, 3.9rpg and 2.4apg in 22 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Obasohan is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) led Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the Indiana Pacers (35-33) 99-85 in the NBA in Friday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Antetokounmpo scored 21 points, had 8 boards, passed 5 assists and added 5 steals (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line). The Milwaukee Bucks have 33-34 record this season. Antetokounmpo is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Bucks' roster. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Antetokounmpo averages: 23.0ppg, 8.5rpg, 5.4apg, 1.9bpg and 1.7spg. He has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. Chinemelu Elonu (206-F/C-87, college: Texas A&M, currently plays in Greece). He could not help AEK Athens (16-5) to beat Olympiacos (18-0). Elonu scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 16 minutes. AEK Athens lost 63-70 in a derby game to the leading Olympiacos. This year Elonu's overall stats are: 7.6ppg and 6.0rpg in nine games he played so far.

   #3. O.D. Anosike (203-F/C-91, college: Siena, currently plays in Italy) was the major contributor in an Openjobmetis VA's victory against one of league's weakest teams VL Pesaro (7-15) 93-78 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night. Anosike had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 11 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) in 26 minutes. Openjobmetis Varese (8-14) is placed 14th in the Serie A. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Anosike's stats this year are: 10.3ppg and 11.6rpg in 20 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #4. Olu Ashaolu (200-PF-88, college: Oregon, currently plays in Japan) was not able to help Sanen Neophoenix (25-18) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Ashaolu's very good performance the second-placed Sanen Neophoenix (25-18) was edged 73-71 on the road by the lower-ranked Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo (#4) in the Central group. He recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 15 rebounds. Ashaolu's overall stats this season are: 9.8ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.2apg. He has both Nigerian and Canadian nationalities. Despite Ashaolu's Nigerian passport, he previously played for the Canadian U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Nigerian team.

   #5. Semi Ojeleye (201-F-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to SMU's victory against the East Carolina University (6-12) 81-77 in the NCAA last Friday. Ojeleye had a double-double by scoring 36 points and getting 12 rebounds in 38 minutes. The Southern Methodist University has a very solid 17-1 conference record this season. It was SMU's third consecutive victory in a row. His team will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Ojeleye has very impressive stats this year: 18.9ppg, 6.8rpg and 1.6apg in 34 games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #6. Experienced Kieron Achara (208-F/C-83, agency: Two Points, college: Duquesne, currently plays in United Kingdom) was not able to secure a victory for Glasgow Rocks (16-9) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Glasgow Rocks lost 68-76 at home to the lower-ranked (#8) Bristol Acadamy Flyers. Achara had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added 3 assists in 36 minutes. Achara's stats this year are: 14.6ppg, 7.6rpg, 2.7apg, 1.6bpg and 1.2spg in 25 games. He has dual citizenship: Scottish and Nigerian.

   #7. Retin Obasohan (185-G-93, college: Alabama, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a 1-point Scandone AV's victory against the eighth-ranked Grissin Bon RE 90-89 in the Italian Serie A last Sunday. Obasohan recorded 8 points. Obasohan's overall stats this season are: 6.6ppg, 2.2rpg and 1.6apg. He holds both Belgian and Nigerian passports.

   #8. Alex Owumi (196-G-84, college: Alcorn St., currently plays in United Kingdom) contributed to a London Lions' victory against the closely-ranked Plymouth Raiders 99-88 in the British BBL in Friday night's game. Owumi recorded a triple-double by scoring 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and passing 10 assists. Owumi averaged so far 13.6ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.3apg and 1.3spg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #9. Talib Zanna (206-F-90, agency: Three Eye Sports, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in France) helped JSF Nanterre win their game against the league leader Monaco 99-88 in the French ProA on Saturday night. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Zanna's overall stats this season are: 9.0ppg and 4.0rpg.

   #10. Ndudi Ebi (206-F-84, currently plays in Lebanon) couldn't help Byblos in their game against Homenetmen in the Lebanese Pepsi LBL. He scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 32 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 17 points 87-70. Ebi has very impressive stats this year: 22.2ppg, 12.4rpg, 1.5apg, 1.8bpg and 1.7spg in 15 games.
