Gani Lawal leaves AV Cantu - Nov 29, 2016

Gani Lawal
28-year old Nigerian power forward Gani Lawal (205-106kg-88, college: Georgia Tech) left Acqua Vitasnella Cantu (Serie A). In 9 games in Italy he recorded 11.9ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3bpg (#5 in the league) this season.
Lawal ended the last season at Al Ahli (D1) in UAE league. He helped them to win the cup and make to league final. But the most of that year he spent at another team Bighorns in U.S. semi-pro league D-League where in 9 games he averaged 6.2ppg and 5.9rpg. Lawal contributed in the Supercup final.
In 2010 he was drafted by Phoenix Suns (NBA) in second round (46th overall). The former Georgia Tech standoutis in his seventh season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements Lawal won Italian SerieA championship title in 2014. He received also Eurobasket.com All-Italian SerieA 2nd Team award back in 2013. Strangely Lawal also played for Nigerian National Team in 2013.
He played at the Gulf Club Championships Winner this year.
Lawal is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to nine different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). Lawal has played previously professionally in China (Guangzhou Liu Sui), France (Chorale de Roanne), Greece (Panathinaikos), Latvia (VEF Riga), Poland (Stelmet), Turkey (Trabzonspor), NBA (Phi.76ers) and D-League (Delaware 87ers and Westchester Knicks).

In 15 games he had very impressive stats: 23.5ppg, 7.1rpg, 4.9apg and 1.5spg this season. Efevberha also played earlier that season for LG Sakers in South Korean KBL where in 14 Pepsi LBL games he recorded 14.9ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.1apg. Marinos de Anzoategui (LPB) tabbed experienced 34-year old Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-110kg-83, college: Chicago State, agency: BeoBasket). He played recently at Vaqueros de Bayamon in Puerto Rican BSN league. In 9 games he averaged impressive 16.9ppg, 10.3rpg, 4.2apg, 1.1spg and 1.1bpg this season.
