Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (LKL) landed 30-year old Nigerian international point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-84kg-86, college: CS Fullerton). He already started the season at Baskonia in Spanish Liga Endesa. In 5 games he averaged 12.6ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.0apg this season. Akognon also played 4 games in Euroleague where he had 4.8ppg and 1.5apg. He ended the last season at Banco di Srd in Italian Serie A. In 14 games he recorded 14.9ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.7apg. But the most of that year Akognon spent at Jilin Tigers in Chinese CBA. In 22 games he got impressive 32.5ppg, 5.4rpg, 3.7apg and 1.7spg.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2014.
Among other achievements Akognon's team made it to the D-League Semifinals in 2012. He received also Asia-Basket.com All-Chinese CBA Honorable Mention award in 2015.
Akognon represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) this year. His stats at that event were 5 games: 10.6ppg, 1.6rpg, 1.8apg, FGP: 50.0%, 3PT: 40.0%.
Akognon is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to five different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). Akognon has played previously professionally in Estonia (Kalev/Cramo), Serbia (Partizan), NBA (Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies), China (Liaoning Hunters, Guangzhou, Leopards and Qingdao Eagles) and D-League (Canton Charge and Delaware 87ers).
He attended California State University, Fullerton until 2009 and it is his eighth season in pro basketball.
Akognon's game is described as: A tiny, but solid bodied guard with personality and great scoring skills. Thanks to his explosiveness and quickness, has a good offensive presence. Can spend time in both 1 and 2 positions, gives his best in open court situations.
