Head coach of Ondo state basketball club Oluwasola Aluko is optimistic the Ondo state team will qualify for the national elite basketball team.

Coach Aluko gave the assurance during one of the team's training session at the indoor sports hall in Akure.

The team which has been in training for the past two weeks ahead of the national division one tournament scheduled for Abuja said with the commitment of the players the team cannot afford to disappoint its numerous fans and basketball stakeholders in the Sunshine State.

The soft-spoken coach says the state is ripe enough to host top level basketball competition and that the only thing on the mind of the Raiders coaching crew and players is to pick a ticket to the Nigeria Basketball Federation organised Premier League.

"We are not preparing to go to Abuja to see the beauty of the city, our goal is to pick a premier league slot to compensate for the work put into practice and the good support from our newly constituted board, declare the former national U16 handler.

While lauding the technical, moral and financial support from the newly inaugurated state basketball board led by a veteran basketball journalist cum administrator Olusegun Ikuesan, coach Aluko noted that the team will make do with its home-based players and will not recruit strange hands.

He also said a total of twenty-five players were screened and seventeen have been selected ahead of the tournament.

The national basketball division one tournament will commence on the 18th through 26th November at the Package-B of the Abuja National Stadium.
