U16 Mozambique beats U16 Algeria 69-65, grabs 2nd place in Group A - Jul 13, 2011

U16 Mozambique outplayed U16 Algeria 69-65 in the last day of the Preliminary Round in Egypt (U16 AfroBasket). Thanks to this win Mozambique (1-2) ended as No.2 of Group A, while Algeria (1-2) is No.3. Ubisse was the leading player in victory with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Ahmed Boutiba replied with 23 pts and 7 boards in loss. In the Quarterfinals, Mozambique will play against Angola. Algeria will meet Mali.
Egypt is the winner of Group A with perfect 3-0 record. In Day Three of the championship, the hosts outplayed South Africa 101-57, despite they already secured first place in this pool even before this meeting. Egypt will meet Congo in the Quarterfinals. On the other side, South Africa (1-2) finished as the last ranked team of Group A and will meet Tunisia in the QFinals.
Tunisia is the winner of Group B with perfect 3-0 record. They grabbed 53-51 OT win against Mali yesterday for their third straight win. Tunisia will meet South Africa in the Quarterfinals, while Mali (2-1, No.2) will take on Algeria.
Angola celebrated their first win in Egypt and avoided last place in Group B. They handed 57-51 loss to Congo. Angola will meet Mozambique in the Quarterfinals, while Congo will meet host Egypt.
Quarterfinals are scheduled for tomorrow.

Ferroviario Beira (D1) inked 25-year old American point guard Angelo Warner (188-88kg-92, college: Morehead State). He played most recently at Mapfree Life in Cypriot North League. He helped them to win the cup. A very good season in his career as he was voted to Cyprus North League All-Imports Team. Warner received NABC Division I All-District 19 2nd Team award back in 2014 at his college time. Ferroviario Beira (D1) agreed terms with 31-year old Ukrainian ex-international center Maxim Ivshyn (209-103kg-86). He played last season at SK Cherkasy Monkeys in Ukrainian Superleague. Ivshyn managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 18 Superleague games he had 5.1ppg and 2.6rpg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
