Mazembe celebrated the playoff victory at the Africa Champions Cup in Benin. They held off Maxaquene at the quarterfinal stage yesterday. Robot Kayembe Mudiandambu (90) stepped up with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the D.R. Congo team. Mazembe will now face the defending champions 1 De Agosto of Angola in the semifinal.
Mazembe entered the game firing from all guns. They quickly posted the lead and rolled to a 17:13 advantage after ten minutes. Maxaquene struggled to find an offensive rhythm. They accounted for just 10 points in the second period as Mazembe built a 30:23 lead at halftime. D.R. Congo side continued to keep their opponents at bay in the third period. Mazembe arrived at the final break leading by 8 points 47:39. The intrigue was never restored in this one. Maxaquene chipped in just 9 points in the fourth term and had to surrender at the end. Aubin Junior Kasongo (86) and Kabangu knocked down 10 points each for Mazembe. Doudou Ilunga Tshimanga (79) netted 8 points in the win. Cameron Echols (203-F-81, college: Ball St.) and Kim Adams (203-F/C-82, agency: Strategic Sports, college: Arkansas St.) replied with 14 points each for Maxaquene. Fernando Mandate (191-G-85) provided 11 points in the losing effort.

Ferroviario Beira (D1) inked 25-year old American point guard Angelo Warner (188-88kg-92, college: Morehead State). He played most recently at Mapfree Life in Cypriot North League. He helped them to win the cup. A very good season in his career as he was voted to Cyprus North League All-Imports Team. Ferroviario Beira (D1) agreed terms with 31-year old Ukrainian ex-international center Maxim Ivshyn (209-103kg-86). He played last season at SK Cherkasy Monkeys in Ukrainian Superleague. Ivshyn managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 18 Superleague games he had 5.1ppg and 2.6rpg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
