Maxaquene basketball club of Mozambique kept its second spot in Group-A behind Nigeria Kano Pillars basketball club with a 68-60 points victory over Manga basketball club of Gabon in its last group game in the 25th Africa Champions Cup for Men.
The Mozambican began the drive for a second spot winning the first and second quarters by 18-09 and 21-16 points to open up a 14 points lead of 39-25 points going into the break.
The coach Inhaki Matin-Garcia boys from Maputo succumbed to the superior fire power of the Gabonese side in the third quarter losing by 08-15 points but maintained a 7 points advantage going into the last quarter which it won by 21-20 points for a cumulative scores of 68-60 points to finish in the group with 9 points.
Maxaquene forward Cameron Echols led his team with 19 points and 5 rebounds, Fernando Mandate had 16 points, 2 assists and one block-shot while Kim Adams Jr scored 11 points 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists for the winning side with Mangas Lucres Koumen having a double double of 15 rebounds, 13 points, 3 steals and one block.

The Nigerian team who came second in the Kwese sponsored Premier Basketball League to qualify for the continental Championship, were beaten 71-60 points by Mozambique's Ferroviario Beira on Tuesday afternoon. Gombe Bulls started the game on a good note, leading the first quarter with 22-19 points advantage, but went to sleep in the second quarter to pave way for the Mozambicans to dominate the period with 24-15 points. The first half ended 43-37 points in favour of Ferroviario Beira . Gombe Bulls however returned to the court stronger after the half time rest, looking to winning the third quarter, but their efforts could only earned them a 12-12 points tie while the fourth quarter was clearly in favour of Ferroviario Beira who won with 16-11 points to end the match 71-60 against the Nigerians. Gombe Bulls' point guard, Godwin David, contributed 13 points in the game, Simon Ameh added 7 rebounds while shooting guard Abdulwahad recorded 2 assists in the game. Gombe Bulls had lost their first game game on Mondy 62-90 points to Union Sportive Monastir of Tunisia. Ferroviario Beira (D1) inked 25-year old American point guard Angelo Warner (188-88kg-92, college: Morehead State). He played most recently at Mapfree Life in Cypriot North League. He helped them to win the cup. A very good season in his career as he was voted to Cyprus North League All-Imports Team.
