After losing by as much of 23 points to Kano Pillars basketball club of Nigeria in Day-2 of the 25th Africa Champions Cup for Men, Maxaquene basketball club of Mozambique stepped up its bid for a quarter-final ticket with a 70-60 points victory over AL Ahly basketball club of Libya in Day-3 of the championship.

Maxaquene were able to shake off the stiff challenge poised by AL Ahly players in the last quarter as both teams were playing neck-to-neck in the first three quarters (16-15, 16-16 and 18-16) as the Mozambican side could only manage a three points lead going into the last quarter breaking off in the fourth quarter to win the game by ten points margin of 70-60 points.

Maxaquene American import Cameron Echols led the floor in scoring with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and one block-shot, Samora Mucavel poured in 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assist while Fernando Mandate adding 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

AL Ahly Cameroon import, Romuald Joseph who had a good game since the competition started led his team with a double double effort of 15 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists with teammate Khalid Khalid Hamad contributing 12 points and 4 rebounds. Ferroviario de Maputo celebrate the title in the country as they won the Final series against Ferroviario da Beira. In the last game Ferroviario de Maputo posted a final 69-56 win to seal the trophy. The second period was decisive in the game as Ferroviario de Maputo exploded with a 24-4 surge to take the lead in the game. Bojan Sekicki (188-PG-87) was named MVP of the Finals. Ferroviario Beira (D1) landed 30-year old Togolese ex-international guard Jimmy Williams (196-86, college: Alderson-Broaddus, WV). He has a double citizenship as he also holds American passport. Williams played most recently at Al Ahli in Qatari D1 league. In 12 games he was fourth best scorer with impressive 23.4ppg and recorded 6.8rpg, 2.3apg and 1.1spg last season.
